Biography
- "From the first day that dog, Vasquez, sailed into Port Royal, he be collecting payment for what he be calling 'protection'."
- ―Hanrahan to Jack Sparrow
At some point in his life, Vasquez had befriended the infamous pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. When he sailed into Port Royal in Jamaica in 1729, Vasquez began to demand payment from local businesses, one such business being the popular tavern owned by bartender Hanrahan. When Hanrahan failed to pay up as demanded, Vasquez sent several of his men to change his mind. Around the same time, Jack Sparrow arrived in Port Royal looking for Capitaine Chevalle and asked his old associate Vasquez for information. Vasquez informed him that Chevalle was to be hanged and told him to meet him at the tavern, but when Jack entered the bar he found Vasquez's men who had already started beating Hanrahan. After disposing of the pirates and the Royal Marines who appeared afterwards, Jack heard about Vasquez's protection racket from Hanrahan and tracked down the greedy pirate at John Brown's blacksmith shop. Vasquez was halfway through punishing John Brown for not paying when Jack found him, but postponed this task in order to deal with Sparrow. The ensuing sword fight between the two pirate captains took them around the smithy, even onto the roof, but soon came to an end with Jack throwing Vasquez off the roof and knocking him out with the back of his cutlass. His further fate is unknown.
