Hanharan was a resident of Port Royal in Jamaica in the 1720s, and owned his own tavern in the town's main street which became a popular place there, with even the town's executioner staying in an upstairs room of the tavern. At some point in his life, Hanrahan had even befriended the infamous pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. However, in 1729 following the East India Trading Company's arrival in Port Royal, the greedy pirate Vasquez sailed there and began forcing local businesses to pay him regularly for what he called "protection". One such business was the tavern, with the payment coming out of a defenseless Hanharan's pocket. When Hanrahan decided not to pay up, Vasquez sent men to change his men. The pirates brutally beat the bartender senseless, but were soon walked in on by Jack Sparrow. The men left Hanrahan to cower behind the bar as they engaged in sword combat with Sparrow, but ultimately Jack was able to dispose of all of the pirates and the Royal Marines who arrived afterwards. Hanrahan thanked Jack as business went back to normal, and also informed him that the executioner was staying there, which allowed Sparrow to sabotage his noose and prevent the execution of Capitaine Chevalle. His further fate is unknown.

Behind the scenes

Hanrahan appeared in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the 2007 video game Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, where he was voiced by Dave Wittenberg.
