Biography
Little is known of the Irish man's life, other than that he wanted to sail the seven seas forever, something he wanted ever since he was a little lad. The Irish man eventually found himself in Twelve Daggers, a cantina in the pirate port of Tortuga, where he met Joshamee Gibbs, the first mate of Captain Jack Sparrow, who was signing up men to crew aboard the Black Pearl. Unbeknownst to the Irish man and the other recruits, Sparrow was collecting 99 souls to give to Davy Jones, the captain of the Flying Dutchman. When the drunken former commodore James Norrington was about to shoot Sparrow with his pistol, the Irish man and a skinny man demonstrated their loyalty by restraining Norrington, causing him to shoot up towards the ceiling, inadvertently starting a brawl. In the ensuing chaos, Sparrow and his newly-recruited crew escaped, and left aboard the Pearl, where they sailed to Isla Cruces. The Irish man stayed on the Pearl with Gibbs until Sparrow returned, after which the Flying Dutchman surfaced from the depths of the ocean, and watched as his captain made a fool of himself trying to bargain with Jones.[1]

The Dutchman opened fire on the Black Pearl, damaging her greatly. The ship managed to outrun the ghostly Dutchman, but would soon suffer a worse fate. The whole ship shook, and fellow crewman Lejon yelled that they must have hit a reef. This was not the case; crewman Will Turner knew of what was happening, and the crew was ordered to get to their stations as the Kraken was about to attack. This man served as a cannoneer, stationed at a cannon along with a Very old man. They were terrified as they saw the Kraken's tentacles climbing up the side of the ship, and immediately opened fire on command along with all of the other cannons. However, the longboats were destroyed by the Kraken, so they had to fight again. The Irish man prepared for the coming fight, loading his cannon. The second Kraken fight began out of nowhere, as the ship shook again and hundreds of tentacles came crashing through the wall. The Irish man was one of the first to die, killed by a tentacle as it crashed through his cannon hole and grabbed him. The tentacle dragged him crashing straight through a wooden pole, smashing it as the Irish man screamed. He was then pulled through a cannonhole and dragged into the ocean to his death.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Irish man was portrayed by Gerry O'Brien in the 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.[1]
In Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio's screenplay for Dead Man's Chest, the character was named "Irishman" and "ducks backward, slips, falls into a table --" when James Norrington's wild shot goes off. After Jack Sparrow used Elizabeth Swann and his compass to find their heading, an "Irish crewman" said he found some more recruits before Jack welcomes them aboard the Black Pearl.[3]
