Bridges are objects appearing in every game of the Pikmin series. At first, bridges serve as obstacles, but a group of Pikmin can construct them to open another area of a location, therefore giving bridges an essential purpose. Bridges are usually found over abysses or a body of water.
Appearances
Pikmin / Pikmin 2
In the first two games, bridges are found as a pile of wood on one side of a gap or body of water, which Pikmin can be assigned to work on. Doing so will cause the wood to be constructed into a bridge that spans the obstruction. Members of the Mandiblard family like Sheargrubs will chew apart stick bridges and roll them back into piles, as do Cloaking Burrow-nits.
In Pikmin 2, there is a bridge that is surrounded by poison, just like some gates. Naturally, only White Pikmin can approach it, but once a few segments have been built, the poison emitters may be destroyed, allowing other Pikmin to assist them in completing the bridge.
A number of glitches are associated with bridges, generally involving Pikmin or enemies getting stuck in or under them.
Pikmin 3
In Pikmin 3, bridges are instead built from having Pikmin piece them together from small pieces of Fragments collected nearby. A number is displayed over the pile of rubble to indicate the number of pieces left before the bridge is complete. Pikmin continue to collect and place pieces until they return to the pile and there are none left, at which point they become idle. There are also different colors and patterns that can be on the fragments.
Pikmin 4
In Pikmin 4, bridges are built out of raw material that is processed into clay, making a ceramic bridge.
