Celeste

Celeste was a human civilian xenoanthropologist in the Planetary Union. She was a former classmate of John LaMarr.

Life

Celeste attended Union Point where she studied Engineering. She knew John LaMarr and last saw him at the school's graduation.[1] After matriculation, Celeste encountered a string of bad luck. "I failed at every job I had," she later recalled. "I was lost."[2] Celeste decided not to enter the Planetary Union as an Engineer, instead becoming a xenoanthropologist.[1]

In late 2419, Admiral Tom Halsey assigned Celeste to study a captured copy of an Anhkana, the Krill holy book, under Doctor Darden. The xenoanthropologists began to practice the rituals each day, sometimes led by Teleya, and soon they converted to the Krill religion.[1]

In July 2420, Celeste and the others were intercepted by the USS Orville attempting to enter Krill space. Celeste secretly snuck a program into the Orville's computer to disrupt their navigational array and take the Orville into Krill space. While on the ship, John reconnected with Celeste and offered to buy her a drink, which she politely declined to attend secret Krill services in their ship's cargo hold.[1]

After the Orville entered Krill territory, Celeste and the others were imprisoned in the Brig. During that time, she voiced doubts about joining the Krill.[2]

After the Orville made it back into Union space, John set Celeste up with her own quarters. Celeste began to second guess her own beliefs: "I thought the Anhkana gave me an identity. Now that that's gone... I don't even know who I am."[2]
