Farming

Farming is one of the main gameplay mechanics in Ooblets. It is the primary method for acquiring food, resources, and new Ooblets.

Farming Basics

Farming Mode

In order to perform farming tasks, the player must first enter Farming Mode by pressing Q (keyboard) or left trigger (controller).

Clearing the Land

Before farmland can be tilled, it must be cleared of weeds, twigs, and rocks. Breaking twigs and rocks uses 6 energy, and produces planklets and nurnies respectively. On rare occastions, breaking a rock can also produce oobsidian. Pulling a weed uses 3 energy and occasionally results in finding a few Clothlet or Sweetiebeetie seeds.

Planting Crops

In order to plant crops, the land must be tilled with a Dirt Scraper, using 5 energy. Planting takes 1 energy and is performed by selecting a seed in your toolbar and pressing the action button on an empty square of tilled soil. Using the Dirt Scraper on tilled soil will un-till that square. If a crop has been planted on that square, it will be destroyed.

Tending Crops

Crops must be kept watered, or else they will dry out and stop growing. Watering can be done manually with the Dribbly Can, using 1 energy. The Dribbly Can may be upgraded at Meed's Seeds for faster watering. Weeds will sometimes begin growing on a plant, halting its growth.

Crops that are left unwatered or unweeded for too long will stop enter the "wilting" state, recognizable by a brown hue and emanating wavy lines. Once they've been watered or weeded, they will enter a "recovering" state and will take some time before they resume growing.

Harvesting

Crops can be harvested when their growth timers reach zero, and the crops are gleaming. Some plants produce more than one crop upon harvest. Harvesting costs 1 energy, regardless of the final yield.

Farming Equipment

See the Crafting page for more detailed information.

Sprinklers & Heaters

Sprinklers keep all tiled soil within their range watered. Heaters prevent crops in their range from freezing during snowy weather. The Sprinklehot and Sprinklehot XL perform both functions.

Oobcoops

Oobcoops allow your Ooblets to help out around the farm, as well as speeding up the growth of crops planted on tiles adjacent to the coop. Ooblets on your farm will never trample or destroy crops. However, Ooblets assigned to a coop may get in the way of planting, tending, or harvesting if they are already attempting to perform a task on that tile. Ooblets assigned to coops will take 20 seconds to perform each task, regardless of level.

Wooden Path

Wooden Path pieces can be laid out on your farm to create pathways and block off sections of crops. Walking speed is increased on the paths, and weeds, twigs, and rocks cannot spawn on tiles occupied by a path piece.

Weather

Rain

Rain will water all tilled soil on the farm for the entire day, lasting until the next morning.

Rainbow Rain

Rainbow Rain will water crops.

Snow

Snow will freeze any crops not in range of appropriate equipment such as the Spaceheater, Sprinklehot, Sprinklehot XL, or Level 5 Oobcoop. Frozen crops can be thawed with Meltilizer, and will remain thawed until the end of the snowy weather. While frozen, crops completely stop growing and do not resume until it stops snowing. If crops are left unwatered throughout the snowfall, they will be wilting by the time they thaw. Snowy weather can last several days, so preparation is key to keep your crops growing through the cold.
