INCUBATION is one of the many locations found within BLACK SPACE in OMORI. It is the ninth optional BLACK SPACE area.

GEOGRAPHY

INCUBATION is a world vaguely resembling DEEPER WELL but with a more reddish tint. The heads of OMORI's friends are shown sticking out of the walls, as well as swimming in small pools behind. Some of them also appear to be sprouting out from the ground, glitched out. The background is a distorted, glitchy version of the realistic RED HANDS seen in RED SPACE.

STORY

When OMORI enters this room, he finds himself in an area filled with reddish water and coral objects, resembling DEEPER WELL as mentioned before. From there, the player can find few mannequins of OMORI's friends stuck inside the walls, swimming in the upper pools, or stuck in the ground. Interacting with the ones in the walls will prompt the text "______ is here", "______" being whoever you interacted with.

The key is located nearby under a hanging piece of coral. After collecting the key, several RED HANDS will spawn and interacting with them will take OMORI back to the center hub of BLACK SPACE.

TRIVIA

• In one of the game's files, INCUBATION is referred to as INCUBATION CHAMBER.
• INCUBATION is one of the ten optional BLACK SPACE areas the player can explore.
• In the game's files, the faceless characters are referred as MANNEQUINS, implying that these versions are a product of BLACK SPACE or remnants from OMORI's previous adventures before resetting HEADSPACE multiple times.
  • As the heads that are stuck in the walls are the only version of the HEADSPACE friends in the area to have eyes and appear to be asleep, it can be inferred that INCUBATION is the place where new bodies for the HEADSPACE friends are mass produced in case of an event in which they all die.
• A voice can be heard of a girl reciting the numbers 1 through 10 in German, a sample from a famous German shortwave numbers station known as "Achtung".
• The area's BGM is originally heard in the DEEPER WELL in the room with BRANCH CORAL.
• The background of this area also appears in the BAD ENDING of the SUNNY ROUTE.
• The holes that OMORI's friends are stuck inside of resemble the shape of SOMETHING's eye.
• The darkish-red trees that populate the area resembles the tree used for DEEPER WELL's sacrifice room, which can be accessed after accepting BRANCH CORAL's request to obtain more power.
• If one interacts with the swimming NPCS through modding, empty dialogue box used in MEAT ROOM will be displayed. The portrait will always be a faceless KEL, which is likely a result of copying event, as the swimming KEL is the leftmost swimming NPC.
