Why the hell are you here, Teacher!? (なんでここに先生が!?) was announced to receive an animated television series adaptation in the 44th issue of Weekly Young Magazine on October 1st, 2018. The series was directed by Toshikatsu Tokoro and animated by Tear Studio. Character designs for the series were done by Kazuhiko Tamura. Yūki Takabayashi and Yuri Fujimaru handled the series composition, while Hiraku Kaneko served as chief director and Gin as the music composer. Sumire Uesaka performed the series' opening theme song "Bon Kyu— Bon wa Kare no Mono" (ボン♡キュッ♡ボンは彼のモノ♡). The series' ending theme is "Ringo-iro Memories" (りんご色メモリーズ), with Uesaka, Yūko Gotō, Shizuka Ishigami, and Nozomi Yamamoto each performing a version as their respective characters.

The series first aired in Japan from April 8th to June 24th, 2019 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X, running for a total of 12 half-length episodes. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for most worldwide regions with simultaneous subtitled broadcasts streamed on HIDIVE.[1][2] Asmik Ace also published subtitled episodes via Crunchyroll.[3] On July 6th, 2019, Sentai Filmworks announced that the series would also receive an English dub which was later released on July 27th, 2019 on HIDIVE.[4] A special unaired episode was included in the Japanese Blu-ray box set released on December 11th, 2019 and was also aired during a complete series broadcast on AT-X on May 10th, 2020. Following the release of the OVA in December 2019, Tear Studio declared bankruptcy meaning that no further animation would be produced from the company.[5] Sentai Filmworks released an international Blu-ray box set for the complete series on May 26th, 2020.[6]

The anime adaptation roughly covers events from volumes one through four of the manga. The 12th episode features an original ending not shown in the manga.
