Why the hell are you here, Teacher!? (なんでここに先生が!?, Nande koko ni Sensei ga!?) is a romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Soborou. The story focuses around unique pairings of older female teachers and younger male students and is depicted in omnibus format with 10 chapters making up one volume. Past characters occasionally make cameo appearances in later volumes. The series concluded after 12 volumes.
The series was originally published on October 26th, 2015 within Kodansha's 46th issue of Weekly Young Magazine as a series of one-shots. The series began full serialization on April 24th, 2017 with the start of Volume Two. Each subsequent volume of the manga focuses on a different student-teacher pairing. An official companion guidebook was released on April 18th, 2019.
On June 19th, 2020 BOOK☆WALKER announced a partnership with Kodansha USA Publishing and stated that a digital release of the first three volumes of the manga in English would be available on their platform as of July 14th, 2020.[1] After Soborou began experiencing medical problems in the beginning of the year, the series was put on hiatus in August of 2020.[2] On August 3rd, 2021, BOOK☆WALKER released a bundle set including volumes 1 through 10 as well as a special colorized book of certain chapters throughout the series. A second colorized book was released on Kodansha's Japanese manga site on October 6th, 2021.
The manga officially resumed with the release of chapter 111 in August of 2024. Despite finally returning from hiatus, the manga was officially concluded on October 21st, 2024 in the 46th issue of Weekly Young Magazine.
Trivia
- Volume 8 introduced two alternate story routes: Volume 9 focuses on the relationship between Tadashi and Nana while Volume 10 follows a different timeline focusing on Tadashi and Kurumi instead.[3]
