Haku (八九 Haku) is a supporting character exclusive to the Nanbaka Web Manga. He is Shiro's gluttonous cat that he is secretly taking care of. He is the son of Sugar.
Appearance
Haku is a large white cat with heterochromatic eyes; his left eye is blue and his right eye is yellow. He wears a green tie around his neck similar to Shiro's and has a gold ear piercing tag in his left ear with the number 89 printed on it.
Personality
Haku is generally very passive, and likes to eat.
Relationships
Shiro
Building 13's chef, Shiro, owns Haku, and keeps him in the kitchen despite animals not being allowed in Nanba Prison.[1][2] Having raised Haku as a kitten, he cares deeply about his cat; anytime Haku is taken from the kitchen, he is quick to find and retrieve him. Haku's immense size is due to Shiro allowing Haku to eat too much.

Sugar
Sugar is Haku's mother.[3] Separated after being weaned, the two are barely, if ever, seen interacting.
Chimney Harminc
Chimney Harminc was the woman to give Haku to Shiro when Haku. Despite not having seen Haku since he was a kitten, Chimney was able to recognize him on sight. She greeted him with joy, and noted that Haku had grown into a healthy size.[3]
Rock
Inmate 69, Rock, has a soft spot for animals which includes Haku. He often takes Haku from the kitchen to his cell. He used the talking-dog equipment from Building 4 in an attempt to make Haku talk - which is unsuccessful.[4]
Trivia
- The name Haku means "eight" (八) (ha) and "nine" (九) (ku), which is an allusion to 89, his ear tag's number.
- The name Haku could also mean "white" (白) (like his fur), "count; eldest brother; chief official" (伯) or "soul" (魄).
- Haku makes a brief cameo appearance in Episode 11 of the anime, in the form of a large plush toy. However, as opposed to having Haku's heterochromatic eyes, both of the toy's eyes were blue.
