The documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey was screened at SXSW 2011. In attendance were Kevin Clash, Elmo, Constance Marks, James Miller, Philip Shane, and Justin Weinstein, who all participated in a Q&A session. (YouTube)
2015
Cookie Monster attended the 2015 event. He met with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal, handed out cookies while wearing a mustache at the Funny or Die Lounge, and appeared on Funny or Die's Facebook page in a video answering as many questions as he can in 60 seconds. A segment for Mashable also was released at the same time.
Additionally, he posed with visitors in a photobooth with the hashtags #iLovePBS, #sxswPBS, or #OmNomNom at the #PBSAnywhere Lounge.
2016
Grover, joined by AOL's Steve Case, spoke at Impact Pediatric Health's annual competition about children's health. He also stopped by Funny or Die's lemonade stand.
2017
Cookie Monster, Bert, and Grover co-hosted a series of three Twitter livestreams for Mashable, speaking with Nick Offerman, Cory Booker, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Poser puppets of Elmo and Grover were also set up.
2025
Elmo, Cookie Monster, Slimey, Felix and Rocco attended SXSW 2025.
