Nebari

Chiana-3

The Nebari are a major species on Farscape.

Chiana, one of Moya's crew members, is a Nebari. Others seen on the series include Nerri, Salis, Varla, Meelak, and Hubero. They are grey-blue skinned aliens with white or black hair.

Culture

The Nebari homeworld is called Nebari Prime, governed by the Establishment. The Establishment requires complete conformity within its population, even resorting to brainwashing and biological warfare to maintain peace. Androgens (intersex individuals) are weeded out after birth by Conformity Control and are often never seen again. However, a revolution is brewing. Chiana's brother Nerri is a leader of the Nebari Resistance, which is only growing in size. Some members, such as Meelak, have infiltrated the Establishment.

The Nebari are quite technologically advanced, and their ships were capable of taking out the Peacekeeper vessel Zelbinion.

Farscape Roleplaying Game

Further insight into the Nebari and their world is provided by the Farscape Roleplaying Game, released in 2002.

Nebari Prime is an "unstable world of volcanoes, mountains, earthquakes, and other tectonic actvity" close to the Uncharted Territories. It is temperate "but very dry," without many oceans. Cities consist primarily of short buildings, and there are no cities near bodies of water due to the common occurrence of tidal waves.

The Nebari are described as having "a spring-like and flexible" spine, granting them "great agility." This evolved from their need to quickly escape natural disaster on their homeworld. The danger of Nebari Prime even influenced their religion; early Nebari thought "the gods wanted them dead." However, their egotism leads them to feel superior "to the gods who tried to kill them and failed."
