Gordon notes that while Oscar is the instructor, he is seated in front while Darryl the student sits behind him. Oscar explains that he's giving him a Grouch lesson on driving - backseat driving that is (complaining to the driver). Oscar thinks it's time to hit the road ("Awaaaaay we go!") and drives off, leaving a stunned Gordon in a cloud of exhaust.

SCENE 3 At the Fix-it Shop, Maria has some plans out to make a new doghouse for Barkley. To determine the size it will be she needs to measure him, which isn't easy to do given how antsy Barkley can get. Big Bird and the kids manage to hold him still by surrounding him and Maria is able to get the proper height, then Big Bird tricks him into lying down by yawning so Maria can get his length written down. They realize they aren't able to get it outside to surprise Barkley - it won't fit through the Fix-It Shop door! They set his favorite old slipper inside to help attract him, and Barkley returns to inspect his new dwelling. He only stays for a second to retrieve his slipper before running back out. The adults suspect Barkley doesn't like the new house and Big Bird announces the sponsors, realizing that the doghouse turns out to be a fun playhouse for the kids!
