SCENE 1 David observes that Hooper's Store could use some painting. Mr. Hooper, who claims that the store hasn't had a paint job for 35 years, approves the idea but feels too tired to spend his time painting. The energetic David offers to do all the work himself, and grabs some cash from the register before darting out to get some supplies.

The old storekeeper is feeling rejuvenated after David's enthusiastic discussion from before, but after he finds David falling asleep following his trip through town, David suggests that they paint tomorrow instead.

SCENE 3 David comes up with a fun stunt to pull on Big Bird - he'll go to the phone booth down the block and call Hooper's Store pretending to be Mr. Snuffleupagus. Mr. Hooper and Maria give some tips on what they know about Big Bird's "imaginary friend" before David heads out, and shortly after Big Bird stops by the store and tends to the phone call from "Snuffy." Maria and Mr. Hooper try suppressing her laughter as Big Bird recaps the phone call for them before leaving. Just when the adults think they've proven that Snuffy isn't real, David returns and admits he didn't have the right change and couldn't use the phone, leaving Mr. Hooper and Maria bewildered.

SCENE 4 Sam the Robot (Bob Payne) is feeling jealous of his "baby brother," a small electric motor (named "Moe" for short) wrapped up in a blanket. He resents the attention it receives for doing nothing of value, but David and Olivia help him understand Moe's potential and Sam's role as a big brother. Sam pictures young Moe becoming something important one day, like an airplane motor or a generator for a building, then decides to take Moe back home and change his wet drip pan.

SCENE 5 Everybody is playing with Barkley in the yard when David warns them of a strange man he saw looking for a big, shaggy dog. Even though Barkley doesn't belong to any known person on the street, they make sure he is kept hidden just in case. An Anything Muppet man (Jerry Nelson) dressed in safari gear comes by looking for a big, shaggy dog. He suspects there's a dog around, but everyone tries to deny it when Barkley begins to bark and pant. Barkley emerges from hiding and the man informs them that Barkley is not the one he's looking for. When the man spots his actual dog down the block and dashes off after him, Olivia remarks, "Talk about a shaggy dog story..."
