SCENE 1 David, Oscar, and the kids listen to various sounds of the street. Oscar guesses incorrectly on the sound of Mrs. Goldman's baby and Antonio practicing his violin when they hear the sound of an odd-running truck. Oscar says this is the sound of the Mudman arriving, but David thinks they would instead hear the sounds of cans clanking. Sure enough, the Mudman arrives humming, "Come ride with me, Lucille..." as he drives past in his miniature vehicle, the Mudmobile.

("Probably wouldn't be good for my transmission," the Mudman believes.) The last wheel is a perfect match with the others and David and Maria get to work reattaching it to the Mudmobile.
