Raddic of Kroog was a Yotian soldier during the Brothers' War and a leader of the Church of Tal in the Dark Age of Dominaria.

Description

Raddic was an older, weathered man with a history of conflict and hardship. He had thin salt-and-pepper hair and a dark beard marked by burn scars, indicative of a violent past. His appearance suggested a life of rough conditions, and he spoke with a tone that carried authority and the harsh edge of someone accustomed to leadership. Raddic's physical presence was complemented by his militant attire — drop-trooper armor — signaling his combat experience and a role in the military during the Brothers' War. He exuded a cold, predatory demeanor, slouched over his saddle, and spoke with a voice that was cold and assertive, resembling a stern leader who demanded obedience. Most of the fingers on his left hand had been shortened by battle wounds. [1][2]

History

Raddic fought for Yotia during the second Suwwardi campaign and for Korlis in the Brothers' War during the Tomakul Campaign of 955 PF (43 AR) and spent the rest of the war in a Fallaji work camp.[1]

As an older man, he was the leader of the fledgling Church of Tal and led the First Talite Crusade. By 69 AR, this crusade had become a vast procession of people he called "penitents and righteous pilgrims", sent to the walls of Penregon. Raddic's demands challenged the city's leadership, particularly Lady Kayla bin-Kroog. He condemned Penregon's use of civil automata as a betrayal of humanity. He urged the city's people to join his crusade against the "machine demons." The tension escalated when the Talites, his followers, attacked a city automaton, resulting in casualties and injuries. Confronted by Kayla, Raddic remained defiant, denouncing the city and threatening violence if they did not abandon their machines. In a final standoff, Raddic issued an ultimatum: cast out the machines or face destruction. His unyielding stance revealed a fanatical dedication to his cause, ready to resort to violence. His departure left Penregon's inhabitants and leaders facing the imminent threat of his crusade.[1]

The Siege of Penregon ended in a day, with the conflict splintering into two key battles. First, Penregon's defenders successfully repelled the Talite crusaders' assault on the city walls. Despite the Talites breaching the wall, they failed to exploit their advantage, allowing Penregon's forces to counterattack. Penregon's use of armed, reinforced, and powered-up civils forced the survivors to retreat. Outnumbered and outmaneuvered, the remaining Talite forces, including their cavalry, could only watch as Penregon's defenders secured prisoners and tended to the dead and wounded.[2]

Simultaneously, a second battle unfolded within the city. Raddic's followers, who had secretly infiltrated Penregon, incited chaos by attacking the city's infrastructure and citizens. As the Talite insurgents launched their surprise assault, Penregon's forces, including the city guard and armed civils, mobilized quickly. Despite initial chaos, the defenders gained control, quelling the insurgents through fierce street-to-street fighting.[2]

Despite their defeat at Penregon, the Talites regrouped and marched on, starting their Second Talite Crusade. They were still gathering strength and followers, and during this crusade, they successfully raided Urza's Tower, leaving it stripped and abandoned, and then marched on to Mishra's Fortress. The crusaders under Raddic's command engaged in a fierce battle against numerous "demons" at the forges there. Despite their efforts, many of the faithful, including Raddic, were killed in the brutal conflict. His death was later confirmed by the new, unnamed gaunt leader of the Talites, who encountered Kayla while purchasing spirits in Penregon. The gaunt leader described Raddic's death as part of the price paid in their campaign to eradicate the demonic presence at Mishra's Fortress.[2]
