Synopsis
Kanata makes a great advance in the fog and leaps into third place. However, as he enters the forest section, the fog clears and his favorable position is lost. Kanata fights a lonely race to protect the advantage he has built up so far. From behind, Akaba's Ferrari, a symbol of high-powered machines, is closing the gap ominously. Aiba and Sakamoto face off in a fierce showdown. Sawatari and Beckenbauer are in a fierce battle for the top spot. As each of these races unfold their own dramas, the race approaches an uproarious final stage!
Plot
As Kanata is heading out of the death zone, Ikeda explains the logic behind him drifting in the death zone, which combines speed and safety in these conditions. He sees the rally heritage in Kanata, student of Takumi Fujiwara, and recognizes his ability to memorize courses. At Saionji Residence, Mayuko can't watch the live feed, as she is too worried about Kanata.
Back in the fourth place, Akaba is less than 9 seconds behind Kanata's 86, eager to catch him after the road dries. At the commentators booth, Ikeda explains how the Ferrari is gaining back it's advantages after the rain ended and calls the battle for third to be a close one. Meanwhile at the first place group, Sawatari is trying to come up with a plan to stop Beckenbauer, who rehearsed his attack at the Relay straight during the second lap. Sana is watching the battle on her phone at school, skipping class to watch her boyfriend's race.
After Kanata passes the Kojiri port hairpin, Akaba is 8,55 seconds behind him. Because the road is still wet, the gap between them hasn't changed much. As MFG viewers support Kanata, wind picks up at the Angels' tent, making Ren, Marie and Kyoko take warm drinks. In a conversation between them, Marie talks about her past relationship and that she has no friends. Kyoko agrees to befriend her and they plan to have lunch later.
As Kanata and Akaba enter the woods section, Tanaka brings up that they won't be able to see each other in this dense section. Ikeda explains, that in such situation the drivers battle themselves, trying to go as fast as possible, in which Tanaka sees an image if a "lonesome cowboy". As both drivers leave the section, the gap between them is 8,27 seconds. Seeing this at home, Mr. Saionji calls Kanata a driver full of surprises and calls out to Ken Katagiri to recognize his son.
Back at the commentators booth, Tanaka asks Ikeda about the difference in speed between the Divine 15 members despite their similar skill and grip-to-weight regulation. According to Ikeda, this is due to the difference in tire temperature, which drops during races in the rain. Kanata, Michael and Kouki can control the temperature of their tires better than others, which explains their performance in this race. Meanwhile at the first place group, Sawatari is planning to counterattack Beckenbauer with a "half-spin feint", a trick he learned in France and to hinder faster cars' acceleration on the straights. This enthusiasm to keep first place is new to him, but Tanaka is certain that Michael won't leave him alone.
As the gap between Akaba and Kanata shrinks to 7,19 seconds, Kakeru is able to overtake Ishigami, who is having trouble with his GT3's rear suspension after his crash. Fujin's mechanic asks him to retire from the race, but his goal to collect as much points, as he can. Meanwhile, Aiba has caught up to Yudai, who is not happy to see him, while Aiba is planning to pay him back for Odawara.
The first place group approaches the Relay straight and Sawatari executes his trap on his rival to no success, as Beckenbauer dives on the inside. Michael calls this a misjudgment due to exhaustion and pulls ahead on the straight, regaining first place. Despite this blunder, he praises Sawatari for making him get serious in MFG for the first time. Meanwhile, Kanata and Akaba also clear the Relay straight with only 1,97 seconds keeping them apart.
