Kouki Sawatari, the Demon God (鬼神!! 沢渡 光輝 Kishin!! Sawatari Kouki) is the sixteenth episode of the MF Ghost anime adaptation, alongside it being the 4th episode of the anime's Second Season.
Synopsis
Passing the gate of Lake Ashi Skyline, the race enters the second lap in the middle. Following Beckenbauer in the lead, Sawatari makes his move here. In the death area - a slippery trap covered with volcanic ash, Sawatari closes in on Beckenbauer. After a fierce battle in which both cars crash their bodies together, Sawatari leaps into the lead with demonic technique. Kanata also takes advantage of his 86 in the death area and gets in front of Sakamoto's Audi. A new generation is creating a whirlwind in MFG.
Plot
Kanata not falling behind on the uphill section surprises Tanaka, and Ikeda goes into a lengthy explanation. Throughout his long career, he figured out that 400 HP is the maximum an average driver can handle on the circuit. For racing on public roads, this number is around 300-350 HP, which is much lower compared to the output of many cars in MFG. Ranting about the misunderstood grip-to-weight ratio and the nature of European high-end cars, he concludes that in conditions like in this race, power available to the driver goes down to 200-250 HP, which is exactly how much power Kanata's 86 has.
The center group passes the finish line through separate toll gates, which is explained as a way to increase visibility while passing a narrow spot. As the last cars pass the gate, all racers are now on lap 2. Beckenbauer and Sawatari approach the death zone, where Kouki plans his attack. With Sana watching the broadcast at school, Sawatari dives inside a corner, which results in contact and Michael's Cayman starts to slide. This allows Kouki to have a better line and despite bumping 3 more times, he is able to pull ahead.
Dogfight in the death zone puts everyone is shock with Tanaka calling this the most dramatic overtake in MFG history. As Ikeda explains the overtake to the viewers, Michael praises Sawatari for making him get serious for a moment, but plans to take back the first place. We see Agnes watching the live broadcast from home, commenting about Michael's character. According to her, losing the race will put him in a slump, but racing is the only thing he's good at, so he can't lose.
As the race goes on, the middle pack enters the death zone and goes through Mikuni Pass. This is where Kanata executes his attack on Sakamoto, blocking his line from the outside and drifting through the next corner. Ikeda struggles to explain Kanata's move, but one thing he notes is the change of vertical Gs that make some drivers lose their balance, which Kanata used to his advantage. We see Keisuke watching the live from his office, remembering how this trick was taught to him by his brother. He reveals his own trick up the sleeve, which he is waiting to unleash.
At the Angels booth, Ren recognizes Kanata's move as drifting. Moe is called to switch up the leaderboard and gets a question about a place she would like to visit. She tells about a yakiniku place in Asagaya, Tokyo, and asks Fumihiro to take her out there for dinner. Joyu decides to take the Angels out for dinner after they're are done with the new song.
Meanwhile, Kanata catches up to Daigo, who gets warned about this on the radio. Increased pressure and slippery conditions in the death zone make him lose control and spin out into the side of the road. He gets out of the car uninjured, but is unable to continue the race and awaits rescue. Because of that, all other drivers gain a position.
