The Downhill Specialist's Pedigree (下りスペシャリストの系譜 "Kudari supesharisuto no keifu") is the ninth chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary
Kanata tells Shun not to worry about him in the upcoming 3rd sector, as he has the layout of the Odawara Pikes Peak course recorded in him like a movie. He then says over the radio that he needs to go silent, as the 86 begins its decent over 850 meters down Route 1. Shun then thinks to himself that Kanata might not know the various differences between a natural downhill road, and a purpose-built race course.
The 86 drifts perfectly down the course, managing to secure 45th. Ogata then notices that Kanata is gaining a position with every checkpoint, with Shun noting that high-ranking drivers are evenly matched in talent. Fumihiro also notices how quickly Kanata is gaining through the ranks. The 86 continues to gain up to 42nd via sliding through the corners, with Shun noting that the 86 looks like its dancing through the corners on the edge, and he thinks that Kanata's trying his best to make it into the Divine Fifteen, in-which Ogata says that he doesn't have a chance to qualify for that spot in an 86, but Shun thinks he's got a chance. He then says to Ogata to not interfere with his run, and to only motivate him.
Ogata tells Kanata that he has 26 cars in-front of him, in-which Kanata thanks for. As the 86 continues down Sector 3, it begins nearing the famous "Death Zone".
