The FG-1000[1][2] is a mobile, floating turret deployed by the Galactic Federation on board the BOTTLE SHIP in Metroid: Other M.

Description

Individual units are capable of charging and firing a single slow-moving yellow bolt of energy at targets, which is considerably weak by the time Samus obtains the Gravity Feature (dealing a single energy point of damage). A pair of FG-1000 drones can generate a Wave Beam barrier between them to cut off narrow choke points, being powerful enough to knock back even the Speed Booster. The machines themselves are not particularly robust and can be easily destroyed with a few shots of any weapon. These drones appear in or near tactically important or industrial areas of the BOTTLE SHIP, patrolling areas such as the outer corridors of the Desert Refinery, the gravity chambers leading to Sector Zero, and the Bioweapon Research Center, and are often encountered near another robot model with which they share many design elements, the FG II-Graham.

They will attack Samus Aran on sight, either because they were originally programmed to defend the BOTTLE SHIP against outsiders by the ringleaders, or because MB had taken control of them for use against the Federation. It is unknown if the FG-1000 or similar robots are used in any other Galactic Federation facilities, as none are ever seen outside of the BOTTLE SHIP.

In the Exam Center, several FG-1000 robots can be seen about the facility on the floor, deactivated, with their 'wings' folded in. Two are found in the T-shaped corridor. It is likely that these robots were eliminated by James Pierce, as he was already inside the building before being found.

Mid-Level Enemies (p. 15)
FG-1000 and FG II-Graham Robots
"These bots aren't actually enemies, but rather the BOTTLE SHIP's defensive systems. That isn't to say they aren't lethal, of course. Quite the contrary, in fact. Their behavior is very similar to an angry enemy's. The FG-1000 will wait for you to get near. If you don't, it'll slowly float toward you and ram you. Once you're at a distance, it'll open up and fire its concentrated laser beams. The FG II-Graham model functions a bit differently. These robots will create barriers, in pairs, to block off certain areas. Destroy one of the two to disable the barriers."

This article, section, or file contains text that is unofficially translated by Metroid fans. Some information (such as proper English names) may not be accurate. If an official translation becomes available, the fan translation(s) may be replaced.

"FGs are floating, gun-type machines. The FG II-Graham has a stronger beam. Attack when their forward area opens and the gun is visible."

Trivia

  • If Samus stands extremely close to an FG-1000 robot (within a few inches of the device), it will become "confused", and will repeatedly fire projectiles harmlessly over her shoulder.
  • Strangely, the Wave Beam FG-1000 robots possess an energy shield that makes it immune to Wave Beam shots (although a Charge Beam shot will freeze its cannon, it will not be destroyed) and Missiles, although the combatant ones lack the shield.
