History
In 2266, Baboo was exposed to de-aging radiation released by an earthquake.
Baboo was the first inhabitant encountered by a landing party from the Federation starship USS Enterprise. By this time, after 193 days of exposure, Baboo had been reduced in age to that of a toddler. He could still walk, but could only communicate in phrases, and he didn't understand terms like friend or mother. He urged the landing party to leave, knowing they were in danger. James T. Kirk discovered a nearby nursery where Baboo was being cared for and fed by Elya and the oldest surviving children.
Later, he listened as Montgomery Scott told Niki the bedtime story of Colonel Goldilocks and the Three Gardazian Bears.
After the source of the radiation was buried, Leonard McCoy brought Elya and Emperor Wenomi an antidote that would restore Baboo to his proper age, but Elya preferred that he and the other survivors grow back to adulthood naturally, giving them more time to restore their civilization.
