Traps

A trap (トラップ) is a type of Set Up (Defend in some games) skill from that, when used, applies a trap in the field that automatically activates under specific circumstances, usually in response to a specific action from a Medabot in the Active Line.

In most games, the same trap can be stacked to increase its power and/or number of uses. If a different trap type is installed, it will replace the previous trap and remove stacked effects. The trap is automatically removed when it is used up. In some games, the higher the numbers of uses left, the more potent the trap will be. Traps can also be cancelled in some ways, like Trap Clear and Trap Buster.

In Medarot, Medarot 2, and Medarot R, only one trap can be active on the field.

From Medarot 3 to Medarot 5 and Medarot Navi, each Medabot can have one active trap, being similar to a status effect.

In Medabots (GBA), Shingata Medarot, each team can have one active trap in the field.

Medarot DS introduced a variation of Traps named plants (プラント), with some traps from previous games being changed into plants. Each team can have one trap and one plant active on the field. They are considered different from traps, so Trap Clear does not work on them, with a Plant Clear being later introduced on Medarot S: Unlimited Nova.

Traps are different in Medabots AX and Medarot G, where they are temporary status effects that cause damage if their conditions are met while in effect.
