Badoon

We are the Brotherhood of Badoon! We come from beyond the furthest star---and from a world so ancient it has no name!

Brotherhood of Badoon[source]

The Badoon were notable for having a gender schism, resulting in two separate societies:

Additionally, a third major group, known as the Moord or the Fifth Caste of the Badoon, were Badoon tinkered by the Kree similarly to Earth's Inhumans. Those included Badoon of both genders. Like the other components of the Universal Inhuman, the Fifth Caste was led by a Queen.

Badoon have long been allies of Thanos, enslaving lesser evolved civilizations across the galaxy, who were put to work for Thanos as well as the Badoon's barbaric needs. Slaves were taken to their homeworld and placed under the control of the slave trade council.[5] Aliens were kidnapped from their worlds and put them to work on their prison planet.[6]

History

Origin

The Badoon were older than the Kree and the Skrulls, having evolved from reptilian ancestors.[7] There was a natural hatred between the two genders, and they fought each other in long gender wars. Eventually, the males won, placing the females in captivity. In time, the males developed technology and abandoned Lotiara, returning only when their mating drive made it necessary. The males became conquerors of worlds, while the females became pacifists, content to remain in peace on their homeworld and ignorant of the males' star-spanning empire.[3]

Among the Brotherhood's attempted conquests were the Zen-Whoberis and the extra-dimensional world of Polemachus.[8] They were known to form alliances with the Brood[9] and the Kree.[10] At the time of the Annihilation Wave, the Badoon controlled 37.7% of the Milky Way galaxy.[11] The Badoon had recently warred with the Skrulls and Kree.[10][12]

Moord

Moord (Inhuman Badoon) from Fantastic Four Vol 1 577 001

The Kree experimented on Badoon to create weapons, changing them into Inhumans. Those experiments involved them consuming one drop of diluted water from the dormant Amphogen, a mutagenic substance able to trigger powers, a process known as Amphogenesis.[13]

Biology

The Badoon were a reptilian species.[14] The male Badoon had almost no hair, while female Badoon were often covered in lengthy fur.[3]

They possess inner eyelids and by watching them twitching could determine what the Badoon was thinking.[1] The Badoon also had green blood.[5]

Reproduction

Being a reptilian race, the Badoon were oviparous and laid eggs,[15] though they also had some mammalian features. Once every sun cycle, the Badoon would be overcome with a madness to propagate and when members of both sexes began to mate they would force on one another, until ending in a stalemate.[3]

After the eggs were laid, the male Badoon would take them for incubation. If males hatched they would remain with the Brotherhood, if females hatched they would be returned to their mothers.[3] Oil of Atlantean origin was shown to be nourishing to their eggs.[15]

Hybrids

The Badoon were able to breed with the female Centaurians.[16] Brother Royale conceived a hybrid daughter with one of his alien slaves.[17]

Alternate Realities

Earth-691

The Brotherhood of Badoon attacked the worlds of the United Federation of Earth in the early 31st century, starting with Centauri-IV in 3006 A.D.[18] and conquering Earth and the solar colonies on Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto in the year 3007 which became known as the Badoon Wars.[19] Earth was liberated in 3015 by the Guardians of the Galaxy and the surviving humans of Earth who had recently been freed from captivity by time-travelling members of the Defenders. The defeated males were then removed from Earth by the Sisterhood of Badoon.[20]

When Yondu left his Yaka dagger on Moord in the past of the 21st century, it created a new timeline in which the Badoon discovered this metal and greatly revolutionized their technology. The Badoon searched for more of this metal through space, and a group led by L'Matto came across the Centaurian homeworld which was rich in Yaka metal. The Badoon attacked the Centaurians, and despite the native's best efforts to drive them back the attackers emerged victorious. The Badoon managed to drive the male Centaurians into hiding while capturing the female Centaurians, leading to the rise of the Badoon-Centaurian Hybrids who took over Centauri-IV.[16]

The Badoon were annihilated when Doctor Doom from Earth-616 arrived and, unable to admit that it was his own flaws that kept him from achieving the utopia that his reformed counterpart had helped create, used an Ultimate Nullifier to destroy all life in this reality.[29]

However, the tide turned when a team was sent in a recon mission in the Badoon Throneworld, where they were immediately attacked by the Badoon, but Wolverine, Cyclops and many others distracted the Badoon, allowing the rest of the team to come back to Earth and win the war.[31]

Type of Government

Monarchy:[14] Patriarchy in the Brotherhood,[45] and Matriarchy in the Sisterhood[46]

Level of Technology

The Brotherhood were capable of faster-than-light space travel and also possessed personal cloaking technology. They employed a hand-held particle gun called the 'basic weapon', and cellular incinerators.[47] They also created large, muscular cyborg-like beings sometimes used in personal combat called the Monsters of Badoon.[14] The Badoon made use of Mento-Programmers which were propaganda devices that implanted the Badoon's missions.[48] Although males typically wore minimal clothing, some soldiers wore an explosive 'frag-thong'[10] that destroyed approximately ten surrounding enemies once a Badoon was shot down.
According to Reed Richards, the Badoon were a "Type II civilization",[49] presumably according to the Kardashev scale.

Cultural Traits

The males were militaristic, but the females were pacifists. While the male Badoon were brutal to other races and violent toward their females (and vice versa), the Badoon were gentle and courteous with their pets and beasts of burden.[3] Badoon were a patient race, but their patience had limits.[15] It was a race of hoarders, who gathered objects which they stored in vaults.[17] Badoon had a low opinion of mammals, and believed that mammals were not to be fought but slaughtered.[8] The males among the Badoon enjoyed the hunting and taking of captives, and the fear their victims experienced delighted the Badoon. It was thought of as a sport and enjoyed hunting those foes who gave them a challenge.[14] At least some Badoon show respect towards "any male that can tolerate his female, much less defend her".[43]

Some Badoon (including the Centaurian "Badoon Half-Breeds") seemingly believe in so-called Swamp Gods, sometimes evocating them.[51][52][53][54][46]

Among the known Badoon Gods was Voord Bloodeye, God of Beheading, who was killed 500 years ago by Gorr the God Butcher (it is unknown if he was of the Swamp Gods).[55]
