Tetriminos are the main object in the Tetris games, a few of which feature Mario content. Tetriminos make their first Mario-related appearance in Tetris for the Game Boy.

Description

Tetriminos are the same as tetrominos, shapes made up of four square blocks. The main object of the Tetris games is to arrange the Tetriminos in a horizontal line in a well without missing any spot, regardless of color or shape. Once this is done, the row of Tetriminos is cleared, the player is rewarded with points, and the lines of blocks above all move down one row. Bonus points are awarded for clearing more than one row at once. Clearing four lines is called a "Tetris," and is worth the most points. As soon as one Tetrimino is laid on the well, another begins to fall from the top of the well. If the blocks overflow and no more Tetriminos can be brought onto the well, the player fails and the game ends.

There are seven different types of Tetriminos, each being a different color. They may be rotated as a group, even when first landing on other blocks or the floor, but their form will not change. In games, markers are usually at the floor to show where the Tetriminos will land, making it easier for the player. Some games allow for a Tetrimino to be stored for later use and then use the one afterward.

In Tetris & Dr. Mario

Aside from being featured in the Tetris remake, Tetriminos are also featured in the "Mixed Match" mode, combining the gameplay of Tetris and Dr. Mario.

In Tetris DS

On the title screen, Mario is one of the characters possibly seen fighting a Tetrimino. In multiplayer mode, a ? Block sometimes appears between the Tetriminos, and clearing it causes a random Mario item to appear.
