Overall Plot
Opening
Donkey Kong and his family consisting of Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, Candy Kong, Cranky Kong, and Wrinkly Kong are enjoying a vacation at the beautiful Sun Sun Island, they all have a blast at the beach and overall just have a good time there however after some time, Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong begin to build up an appetite and become rather hungry after the playing on the beach. Diddy Kong then arrives in shock telling DK and Cranky that he just found a massive Banana atop the island's mountain. The three then decided to climb the mountain to get to the Banana with the intention of eating the colossal "snack".
Sun Sun Island
Upon starting the adventure, Cranky Kong teaches Donkey Kong the basic moves ranging from moving around, jumping, attacking, climbing on pegs, attacking from pegs, and obtaining Gems for Crystal Stars. DK also practices these moves in minigames as well involving jumping rolling logs and evading rolling boulders, grabbing as many falling bananas as possible while avoiding the prickly fruits, and beating Diddy Kong in a climbing race. After DK has learned the basics from Cranky, he, Diddy, and Cranky continue along the adventure through Sun Sun Beach, entering the Jungles, and swimming through the Island's oceans, they eventually reach a tower-like cave. The Kongs enter the cave and avoid any foes whilst learning new abilities, upon exiting the cave, they end up at the mountain ascent, the Kongs use the Barrel Cannons to their advantage to climb up the mountain and upon reaching the mountaintop, they see King K. Rool with his five highest ranked Kremling goons holding five Crystal Bananas, K. Rool boasts about how he managed to steal the Crystal Bananas from an "alien" and vowing to take over the world with them and their power. King K. Rool then commands one of his Kremlings to use the Spirowarp to open a Wormhole to escape before they are chased, K. Rool and his goons then escape through the portal and it closes just as the Kongs arrive. The Kongs suspect K. Rool is up to his old tricks again, remembering why they climbed the mountain Cranky asks where the Banana is but at that moment, the Giant Banana flies by and drops three turnip bombs on the Kongs, and it actually turns out to be a Banana Spaceship. Cranky Kong then orders DK and Diddy to destroy the Banana Spaceship, the Kongs then battle the ship dodging the turnip missiles it shoots down and smashing the Ship everytime is flies above, they hit the red button underneath the ship three times and the Banana Spaceship starts exploding before crashing to the ground with it's destruction. Xananab, a talking Banana emerges from the ship stating that he was the owner of the ship and mistook the Kongs for the Kremlings whilst apologizing for attacking them. Xananab also reveals that the Kremlings stole the Crystal Bananas and are plotting to use them for evil but because the Kongs destroyed Xananab's spaceship, he can't stop them. Cranky then agrees to team up with Xananab and help him chase down the Kremlings to retrieve the Crystal Bananas. After this, Funky Kong then flies the Kongs and Xananab to the Lost Island to continue chasing down the Kremlings.
Lost Island
Arriving on the Lost Island, the Kongs and Xananab given a tip that the Island is linked to the Portals that King K. Rool and the Kremlings used traverse the tropical jungles of the island before reaching the beach where they find a Spirowarp. Xananab uses the Spirowarp to open a Wormhole which leads to the Glass Labyrinth, a new dimension where everything is made of glass and crystals. The Kongs search for K. Rool in this new dimension before coming across a Strange Mirror which mirrors DK on the top screen, upon passing a gauntlet, they discover that K. Rool isn't here so they leave the dimension and return to the beach, the Kongs and Xananab then traverse the rest of the jungle while passing ancient statues and structures before reaching the ruins where a massive temple is located. The Kongs and Xananab enter the temple and come across some of K. Rool's forces which they defeat easily and traverse the temple. Upon exiting the temple at the roof, they find another Spirowarp at the Temple's top and Xananab uses it to open a Wormhole to the Toybox, a dimension which consists of a toy filled world where the ground is made of blocks, legos, and other toys while there are toys placed all over the place and even on the hundreds of shelves in the background. The Kongs continue along the path battling Kremlings and other enemies before finally reaching King K. Rool and his four Kremling goons. At that moment, DK, Diddy, Cranky, and Xananab arrive telling him to return the Crystal Banana, K. Rool sees this as Xananab trying to "sic DK on him to retrieve the Crystal Bananas" so he sends one of his Kremlings on the team claiming he has no time for them thus leaving with his other three Kremling minions. The Kremling uses his Crystal Banana to morph into a robot formed up by dozens of toys, the Kremling Toyface. After a battle, the Kongs manage to beat the Kremling and retrieve his Crystal Banana. DK, Diddy, Cranky, and Xananab celebrate retrieving the first Crystal Banana, before leaving the dimension to chase the Kremlings down (who left previously). Upon exiting the dimension, Funky Kong flies the Kongs and Xananab to the Ghost Island where one of the Kremling bases is stationed and likely where K. Rool has fled to.
Ghost Island
Upon arriving on the spooky Ghost Island, the Kongs and Xananab are hit by a flurry of fog. They then pull out a map to navigate around the fog whilst finding pegs to climb across, upon getting out of the fog area in one piece, the Kongs and Xananab make it across some gnarly trees climbing them and traversing upward, they then reach the top of the island's central tree and search for yet another Spirowarp, upon finding it and giving it to Xananab, he opens to portal and they all enter it arriving in a new dimension called the Veggie Patch. A dimension made entirely of different vegetables, fruits, and other greenery. Bouncy Mushrooms, Flying Pineapples, Flinging Grapes, Spinning Corncobs, and even a giant Watermelon. Upon leaving the dimension, the Kongs and Xananab return to the Ghost Island and come across a green swampy bog, they are blown around by the dozens of jet streams but make it out with ease. After this the team return to the central part of Ghost Island where they must find another Spirowarp, after finding it, they enter the Wormhole which takes them back to Toybox however they are now in a different more challenging section of the play area. Here, they must traverse the area whilst changing gravity and avoiding the Death Pencils. Upon leaving the dimension and returning to the Ghost Island, the Kongs arrive at the Kremlings' Panic Factory. Upon entering, they manage to make it past some of the Kremlings most dangerous weapons, appliances, and other hazards. They then climb across a shaft before reaching King K. Rool and his three Kremling goons again. K. Rool reveals that he intends to take over the World with his Crystal Bananas, sends one of his Kremling goons at the team before leaving with the other two Kremlings. As the Kremling powers himself up with the Crystal Banana, Cranky Kong and Xananab leave leaving Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to take on the morphed beast. The powered-up Kremling calls in the Mega AMP, an massive robot made by King K. Rool, although incomplete at this time, it is still plenty powerful. Despite this, the Kongs manage to avoid the giant robot's blasts as well as it's bomb attacks, damage the buttons and smash the Kremling controlling the gigantic machine, upon the Kremling's defeat, the Mega AMP is destroyed and the Kongs retrieve the second Crystal Banana. DK, Diddy, Cranky, and Xananab celebrate their victory yet again before leaving the factory, once again, Funky Kong flies the team to the next island the Chill 'n' Char Island to continue chasing the Kremlings to their next major base which is located on the freezing-hot island.
Chill 'n' Char Island
Once arriving on the burining-icy Chill 'n' Char Island, the team makes their first climb against the cascading cold waterfalls before entering a cave atop them. Upon exiting the cave, they enter a snowland with heaps of prickly brambles which must be avoided, after fighting their way through an intense snowstorm, the Kongs reach a very icy patch. Upon climbing across the ice and the snow, they then make it to a snow-covered area where they are on the hunt for yet another Spirowarp, upon finding it, Xananab opens the Wormhole which leads to Glass Labyrinth once again however this time instead of Strange Mirrors being the issue, the team needs to navigate around the glassy maze whilst periodically manipulating gravity to their advantage, upon leaving the glassy dimension once again, the team makes it through the last of the snowy climbs before reaching a non-frozen jungle area with a brown mountain which actually turns out to be a volcano. The team enters the Volcano and then make close encounters with the lava below, they escape the tides of lava as well as the lava falls and rising lava and then the volcano as a whole, at the volcano's top, the team discovers the next Kremling base which turns out to be the Kremling Dock where the Kremlings dock their vehicles, ships, boats, and spacecraft. It is also used as a secondary factory for the Kremlings. The Kongs traverse through the dangerous trap-filled dock battling and defeating Kremlings along the way, after bypassing the hurdles, the Kongs and Xananab corner King K. Rool and his two Kremling goons once again. K. Rool reveals that he set a trap for the team and they were standing on it at that moment, as the trap activated, the team fell down into the depths of the ground below, K. Rool sent his other Kremling minion to finish off the team as he and his Kremling minion made their escape. Upon landing in the factory's caverns, the Kremling uses his Crystal Banana to power himself up, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong stand back as the Kremling powers himself up while Cranky Kong and Xananab leave the area. The Kremling jumps into the rock cocoon behind him awakening the monstrous Kremling Dragon inside. The dragon lets out a violent roar before engaging the Kongs in battle. DK and Diddy dodge the Dragon's fire breath attacks and manage to lodge his hooked tail into one of the hooks and attacking the powered-up Kremling inside the Kremling Dragon's mouth (as the Dragon tried to set itself loose, the Kremling would stick out of it's mouth each time giving the Kongs a clear chance to strike). After a long battle, both the Kremling and the Kremling Dragon were destroyed and the Kongs managed to retrieve the third Crystal Banana. After this, the Kongs and Xananab exited the factory only to find a colossal Kremling Spaceship soaring upahead. King K. Rool arrives telling the team that the ship is the King Kruiser IV and he with it's power as well as the power of his two Crystal Bananas, he is unstoppable. He then vows that not only the whole World but the whole Universe will be his oyster and vowing to start with Planet Plantean (Xananab's Home Planet) much to Xanananb's horror. King K. Rool and his one Kremling goon then escape aboard the ship as the team thinks of a way to catch K. Rool with his latest escape, Diddy then notices a large mountain of an island and realizes that maybe they could catch the ship if the climb to the top of the island, they then leave the Kremling Dock and Funky Kong the flies the team to the western canyon High High Island.
High High Island
The team arrives at High High Island now pressed for time as they race to chase down King K. Rool's massive starfighter. The Kongs and Xananab climb the island traversing many obstacles and making it through more hurdles. Once reaching the summit, they are too late as the King Kruiser IV soars off to the skies much higher than they are. Both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong sulk over K. Rool's latest escape but Cranky Kong encourages them to not give up handing them a Booster Barrel to use to chase down K. Rool, they jump in the Booster Barrel and soar for the skies and eventually reaching space. The Kongs manage to avoid the Mines in the skies before finally catching up with the King Kruiser IV, they enter the Ship and infiltrate it, in the Ship, the team is faced with some of it's toughest challenges yet, many Kremling guards, Buzz Saws, Spikes, and dozens of weapons ready to be unleashed on them. Despite this, the Kongs make it through the chambers of the spaceship and reach the ship's central area at the top where King K. Rool and his remaining Kremling minion are plotting at that moment, the Kongs and Xananab arrive with King K. Rool in shock about how they managed to reach him, Cranky then tells K. Rool that he has nowhere else to run and to surrender immediately, K. Rool refuses and sends out his more powerful new and improved Mega AMP 2.0 an upgraded complete version of the Mega AMP fought back on Ghost Island, K. Rool sends his last Kremling goon at the team, Cranky and Xananab leave as DK and Diddy get ready to take on the only thing standing in their way. The Kremling powers himself up with the Crystal Banana and calls in the Mega AMP 2.0, this version of the Mega AMP is far more powerful as it now has a built-in drill, can shoot more blasts, and can spew out mines rather than bombs, regardless of this, the Kongs managed to damage the giant robot reveal the Kremling, dodge his attacks and destroy him thus bringing down the Mega AMP 2.0 once and for all. The Kongs then grab the fourth Crystal Banana and continue chasing K. Rool who is insanely dumbfounded that the Kongs destroyed his Mega AMP 2.0 and just as the team gets ready to fight him, K. Rool pulls out a Spirowarp and escapes in the Wormhole abandoning the King Kruiser IV. The Team then enters the Wormhole giving chase to the reptilian tyrant.
Wormhole
Chasing King K. Rool, the team arrives at Glass Labyrinth once again. A Strange Mirror falls down at the Kongs forcing DK to clear a tricky obstacle course by himself, after reaching the end, the Kongs are reunited and continue through the area and find yet another Wormhole, upon entering, they arrive at Toybox, here, they must make their way through several obstacle courses whilst popping a few Giant Beachballs. Upon reaching the end of yet another tricky obstacle course, they reach another Wormhole and from here, they finally reach Planet Plantean where King K. Rool has arrived too, the team then chases him across yet another tricky obstacle course and upon reaching the main village, K. Rool vows that the power of the Crystal Bananas (even though he only possesses one at this point) will be the undoing of the Banana Planet whilst expressing his distaste for Bananas. At that moment, the team corners K. Rool telling him to surrender and hand over the last Crystal Banana. King K. Rool, then challenges them to a battle. In battle, King K. Rool attacks the Kongs by using basically the same moves they use only with several upgrades along with the added ability to toss Mines, K. Rool puts up a good fight but he is bested by the Kongs efforts, after his initial defeat, King K. Rool refusing to give up so easily uses his last Crystal Banana to power himself up into the much larger titan, Super King K. Rool. Super King K. Rool attacks the Kongs with a flurry of powerful attacks ranging from hand slams, fire breath, meteor showers, and more. Despite his newfound strength and unlimited levels of power, the Kongs manage to bring down the colossal monster once again, shrink him back to his normal size, and snag back the final Crystal Banana.
Epilogue
Upon King K. Rool's defeat, the team celebrates their victory and getting all five Crystal Bananas back. Cranky Kong expresses his desire to return to the tropical vacation stating that "the adventure was too much for these old bones". Xananab resorts to thank the Kongs for saving his home planet with a hefty reward. Other Banana Aliens arrive to congratulate and thank the Kongs for saving Planet Plantean by showing them around and giving them heaps of Bananas to snack on. The Crystal Bananas are all placed back in their rightful spot at the Banana Temple and the Banana Aliens build the Kongs a Banana Spaceship to return to Earth, the Kongs bid farewell to Xananab and the Banana Aliens and leave for Earth in their new Banana Spaceship with King K. Rool in tow. The Kongs all then return to their Tropical Vacation.
After the game is beaten 100%, Cranky Kong and Xananab arrive to congratulate Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong for beating the adventure and never giving up along the way. As a way of rewarding them, Xananab pulls out a Spirowarp and releases a Giant Banana from it (which is what the Kongs set out to obtain at the adventure's beginning), as the Kongs obtain the Banana, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, Candy Kong, and Wrinkly Kong all arrive and congratulate DK and Diddy for their immense victory as King K. Rool can be seen flying away on his hovercraft plotting away at his his next plan.
