Sergeant Teven was a Skathandi knight serving under the command of The Captain, the nomadic tyrant of the Lamatath Plain.[1][2] As a knight, he likely wore full banded armour, a helmet, and an ebony cloak.[3]
In Toll the Hounds
Troop commander Uludan sent his ablest Fourth Troop rider to inform the Captain they had found the bodies of one of his raiding parties in the field. It was the second such incident in recent days. The Captain arranged for twenty of his knights to accompany the rider back to the ambush site to track down the culprits. Then just as Sergeant Teven was ordered to come immediately to the Captain for additional orders, the Captain suddenly got his first glimpse of Karsa Orlong approaching in the distance.[4]
The ancient river spirits that kept the Captain alive fled in terror at the Teblor's approach. The dying Captain ordered his army to stand down and he attempted to name Karsa his heir. But Karsa refused. Once the Captain perished from his old, reopened wounds, Karsa freed the slaves and burned the palace to the ground. Then he commanded the Captain's soldiers to divide the kingdom's treasure between themselves and the slaves.[5]
