Skathandi

The self-styled Kingdom of Skathandi was ruled by the nomadic tyrant known as The Captain from an enormous wheeled palace that endlessly circled the Lamatath Plain.[1] The kingdom fielded an army of some two hundred mounted knights and another three hundred light cavalry.[1] For seven years, Skathandi raiders terrorised the other inhabitants of the region, murdering, stealing, and taking slaves from the Gandaru, Kindaru, and Sinbarl tribes, and looting foreign merchant caravans.[1]

The Skathandi kingdom was wealthy from the spoils of war and from the sale of its highly sought-after horses to southern horse-traders.[1] To solidify its claim on the Lamatath, the Captain sent envoys to his neighbours in Bastion, Darujhistan, Kurl, New Callows, Saltoan, and Sarn.[1] When merchants tried to eliminate their depredations with hired mercenaries, the Captain either bought the mercenaries out or destroyed them with his own army.[1]

The Kingdom of Skathandi came to an end when it crossed paths with Karsa Orlong. Calling slavery an abomination, the Teblor ambushed two of the Captain's raiding parties, killing sixty warriors. Then Karsa tracked down the Captain's wagon, forcing it to stop for the first time in its existence. The ancient river spirits who kept the Captain's body alive and powerful fled in terror at Karsa's approach. Having no other choice, the now dying Captain ordered his army to stand down then met with Karsa intending to make the Teblor his heir. But Karsa refused. Once the Captain's old, reopened wounds ended his life, Karsa burned the palace to the ground and freed the slaves. He ordered the Captain's soldiers to divide the kingdom's treasure between themselves and the slaves.[2]
