John

John (ジョン Jon) is the main protagonist of MAD series.

He was a farmer alongside his younger sister Emma. Following the alien invasion, he would meet Ethan and his band, with whom he seeks refuge. After being exposed to alien flesh and adapting to it, John would become an adaptor, transforming into a horned alien.

Appearance

Normal Form

John is a rugged and striking figure, with long, messy black hair and a thick, untrimmed beard that give him a wild appearance. He wears a worn-out cape over an equally tattered shirt, providing some protection against the evening chill. His cape shows signs of hardship and constant travel with Emma. He carries a large backpack filled with his belongings and has a tubular weapon strapped to his back. Around his neck hangs a simple necklace made by his late sister, featuring a horn-shaped ornament.

John's left arm is amputated, a clear reminder of past battles and the harsh world he inhabits. His sturdy, well-worn boots are ready for the long journeys he undertakes.

After surviving decomposition and becoming adaptor, John regains his arm, however, he becomes bald with pale skin and marks on his body, and due attacks by Leon he gains a scar and one of his eyes.

Horned Alien Form

After surviving the decomposition, John transforms into a horned alien (which is a rare specimen to find naturally), in this appearance John obtains darker skin compared to regular aliens, this skin has several layers similar to scales which they use as protection, he has claws on both his hands and feet, a large tail which acts as a spear, sharp teeth in his mouth and his most notable feature are the sharp horns on his head which converge on his face combining with the area where his eyes are located which turn completely white.

Personality

John is quiet and contemplative, often avoiding group discussions unless directly involved. His withdrawn demeanor reflects the deep losses he has endured. However, he cares deeply for Emma, holding onto the handmade charm she crafted for him, which symbolizes their strong bond and his commitment to her memory.

In moments of danger, John demonstrates a sudden surge of determination and resourcefulness, fiercely defending against threats like the aliens they face. His emotions run deep, particularly in sorrow or when reminiscing about his past with Emma, revealing his sensitive side.

Cautious about trusting others, John is wary of false hope, particularly regarding Ethan's decisions to follow unknown signals. He approaches challenges with a practical mindset, focusing on potential dangers.

Background

John lives in a world devastated by the rapid arrival of aliens that quickly took over the planet. He was part of a small group led by Ethan, composed of survivors navigating this treacherous new reality. Before joining Ethan's group, John was a reluctant farmer, while Emma was passionate about their life on the farm. They lost their home and parents to the alien invasion.

Throughout their journey, John struggled with grief and hopelessness, especially after witnessing Emma's death and the loss of Ethan's group. He clung to the charm she made, symbolizing his connection to home and his determination to endure. Ultimately, John found renewed strength in confronting an alien threat, fueled by memories of Emma and their shared past.

John was eventually rescued by a squad of armed men who arrived just in time to save him from the alien menace, later taking him to Jericho, a shelter for survivors. His story is marked by loss, resilience, and the enduring bond with Emma, represented by the charm she crafted for him.

Relationships

Emma

John and Emma shared a profound bond shaped by their experiences and close relationship. Despite being younger, Emma was always supportive, encouraging, and companionable. Her talent for crafting was evident in the heartfelt charm she made for John, which symbolizes their memories and the familial relationship they once had. John treasures this charm deeply, as it reminds him of Emma's love and their strong connection, especially during the darkest times they face in their post-apocalyptic world. The motived one to remain alive. Being one of the triggers that would make him the horned alien adaptor.

Ethan

John’s relationship with Ethan reflects a tentative trust in his leadership within their survivor group. Ethan often makes decisions, such as following signals and pushing the group forward, even in risky situations. Initially, John keeps to himself, grappling with the loss of Emma and interacting little with Ethan. However, he acknowledges Ethan’s role as leader and recognizes the mutual respect they share in facing survival challenges together.

After escaping the alien threat, John and Ethan arrive in Jericho, where they meet Leon, their rescuer, and later Norman, the leader of Jericho. Norman reassures John of their safety and explains their mission to defend humanity against the aliens. Feeling reassured, John begins to trust Norman. When Ethan regains consciousness, they both share relief and gratitude for their new home. Over a shared meal, they bond over their experiences, forming a closer friendship. Even after arrests in Jericho, this did not change. Ethan's death would deeply disturb John, being one of the triggers for his transformation into the adaptor horned Alien
