Ray Dwight is a minor character on Lucifer, appearing in season three. He was detective for the L.A.P.D in the 1950s. He once served as Marcus Pierce's partner.
History
In the 1950's, Ray served as a detective in the LAPD with Marcus Pierce as his partner. In 1958, the two were assigned to investigate the Broken Hearts Killer case, the name given to the killer served as a point of contention between the two men as Pierce didn't like the idea that such a name could stick. Eventually, Pierce and Ray solved the case, catching the killer, Clarke Hoffman, in the act of staging his last victims' bodies in the Chavez Ravine.
Ray was hailed as a hero for catching the killer, but he never felt that the case was truly solved as Hoffman never confessed nor explained how he was choosing his victims. Shortly after the case was solved, Pierce transferred out of state and never saw his partner again.
Ray later began a romantic relationship with Kay, a waitress at the Addams' Bar, who had once had feelings for Pierce. The two eventually married and had a daughter and granddaughter, Maddie, who looked remarkably like Kay. Even after Ray retired, however, he kept working on the Broken Hearts Killer case, attempting to solve the mystery of how Hoffman chose and found his victims. About 2012, Ray died after a long and happy life, followed a few months later by his wife.
Throughout the Series
In "The Last Heartbreak", a few days after Clarke Hoffman dies in prison, a copycat to the Broken Hearts Killer emerges. Having returned to Los Angeles, Marcus Pierce works on the case, recalling his time chasing after Hoffman in 1958 with Ray. During the case, Pierce meets Ray's granddaughter, Maddie who informs Pierce of what had happened to his old friend after he had left. Maddie provides Pierce with Ray's case file on Hoffman from which Chloe Decker discovers that all of the spouses of the cheating victims had called in to the Dear Dotty radio show with the copycat using a similar radio show to find his own victims. With this information, Pierce and Chloe are able to set a trap and the copycat is captured by Lucifer Morningstar and Dan Espinoza.
