Zero

[0] (Korean: 제로; Zero), officially titled LOOΠΔ The Origin Album [0], was an upcoming mini album from South Korean girl group LOONA. Originally slated for release on January 3, 2023, the album was postponed indefinitely on December 22, 2022.[1]

This project was announced amid a media storm surrounding the previous removal of member Chuu and the filing of injunctions against BlockBerryCreative by the remaining members of LOONA. In protest, fans organized a boycott of the album and all other LOONA material.[2]

On January 5, 2023, a few days after the original scheduled release date, the album was supposedly available on a Chinese streaming website KKBOX for one to two minutes.[3][4] No data other than the album cover was saved from the website before the removal.

On December 15, 2024, several snippets from the album were leaked by a user of X.[5]

History

2022: Chuu’s departure from LOONA, announcement, boycott, cancellation of release

On November 25, 2022, BlockBerryCreative released a statement about expulsing and removing Chuu from LOONA, stating “there have been reports of abuse of power, including verbal abuse […] the Company has decided to take responsibility by expelling Chuu from LOONA”.[6][7] BlockBerryCreative refused to provide evidence of so-said “abuse of power”, facing criticism and skepticism from fans.[8] Numerous people from the industry defended Chuu, claiming that she is not what her former company was attempting to portray her to the public.[9]

Three days later, on November 28, the remaining members of LOONA, except for HyunJin and ViVi, reportedly filed injunctions to suspend their exclusive contracts with BlockBerryCreative,[10] who denied the statement.[11]

Amidst the storm regarding the expulsion of Chuu, LOONA’s sixth mini album [0] was announced through a teaser image. Outraged by Chuu’s removal only days before, fans organized a boycott of all LOONA products and services, including the new album.[2][12][13] In response, on December 22, BlockBerryCreative announced the comeback’s indefinite postponement.[1]

2023: Alleged leak, remaining members’ departure from LOONA

On January 5, 2023, a few days after the original scheduled release date, rumors started circulating that the [0] album is available on a Chinese streaming website KKBOX.[3][4] However, as it was taken down immediately after it got supposedly leaked, there is no evidence supporting this statement other than the album cover.

On January 13, HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry won their lawsuits to terminate their exclusive contracts with BlockBerryCreative. The other five members—HaSeul, YeoJin, Yves, Go Won, and Olivia Hye—lost their initial injunctions, as the court didn’t find their contracts unfair enough.[14] On February 3, HyunJin and ViVi also filed to terminate their contracts.[15]

On May 9, HyunJin and ViVi won their injunctions against BlockBerryCreative and terminated their exclusive contracts.[16] On June 16, HaSeul, YeoJin, Yves, Go Won, and Olivia Hye won their lawsuits and terminated their exclusive contracts with BlockBerryCreative. After noticing an issue with BlockBerryCreative’s transfer of exclusive contracts to Universal Music Japan without the members’ written consent, the Seoul High Court’s 5th Civil Cases Division ruled in favor of the five remaining LOONA members.[17]

2024–2025: Snippets leaks

On December 15, 2024, an Orbit gained access to [0] leaks on a Telegram channel and shared them on their X account.[5] These included 30-second snippets of each track excluding the intro.

On January 13, 2025, the album’s intro “0” was partially leaked by the same Orbit.[18] It was also shared in the same leak that the leakers did not have access to the full album.[19]
