Prague is the capital and the largest city of the Czech Republic, located in the country's northwestern side on the Vltava River. The city is a major powerhouse in central Europe in terms of politics, culture, and economics in its' 1,100 years of existence. It was also a major city during the Hapsburg Dynasty and the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the capital of Czechoslovakia until its dissolution on New Year's Day of 1993, and the city also played a major role during the Protestant and Bohemian Revolutions, Thirty Years War, World Wars 1 and 2 and the Cold War.
Today, the city is the 5th most visited European city alongside London, Paris, Istanbul, and Rome, and boasts a huge number of famous historical and cultural sites that have managed to survive during the city's violent 20th Century history, such as the Jewish Quarter, Old Time Square with the Prague astronomical clock, and Prague Castle, as well as more than 10 major museums, many theaters, shops, galleries, and other exhibits. It's also home to Central Europe's oldest existing university, Charles University.
Mission: Impossible
Ethan Hunt, together with Jim and Claire Phelps, Jack Harmon and Sarah Davies, traveled to the historical city to prevent Aleksander Golitsyn from stealing an important NOC list from the US Embassy in the city. Ethan managed to get into the camera controls, and captured recordings of Golitsyn stealing the important documents.
However, the events following after that turned for the worst: Jack was impaled to death by an open spike above an elevator shaft, Sarah was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant (later revealed to be Franz Krieger), the car Claire was supposed to be in burst into flames, while Jim seemingly got shot and fell into the river. Meanwhile, Ethan, surviving the disastrous mission, soon contacted Eugene Kittridge about what happened and soon met him at the Akvarium, only to learn that the NOC list Golitsyn stole was fake and he was accused of being a mole by Kittridge because he seemed to be the only survivor of the mission. Luckily, Ethan managed to escape from the IMF agents and reached the safe house where he saw Claire who somehow avoided getting killed in the action.
