Lapillus

Lapillus (라필루스) is a South Korean girl group under MLD Entertainment. The group consists of 6 members: Chanty, Shana, Yue, Bessie, Seowon and Haeun.

They made their debut on June 20, 2022 with their first digital single "Hit Ya!".

Etymology

Lapillus is a Latin word that represents a jewel that changes color depending on the direction of light. With this name, the group encourages fans to find their own color.

Their catchphrase is "Shine your Lapillus".

History

Pre-debut

On May 16, 2022, MLD Entertainment announced that they are going to debut a new girl group called Lapillus in June, and that “Girls Planet 999” contestant Nonaka Shana and Filipina-Argentinian actress Chantal Videla (Chanty) will debut as part of the group.[1] On the same day, the company opened group's official SNS accounts.[2]

On May 23, 2022, the company posted first teaser photos of members Shana and Haeun.[3] On the same day, it was announced that the group would debut on June 20. The next day, photos of two new members, Seowon and Yue, were revealed. Teaser photos of final two members, Bessie and Chanty, were posted on May 25.

On June 6, the company started uploading introduction videos for each member in the same order as profile pictures. On June 12, a 30-second debut message was uploaded to Lapillus' Spotify, where the girls revealed the meaning behind the name of the group and that the members will be able to communicate with their fans in many different languages, including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Tagalog. The group also confirmed that their debut title track is called "Hit Ya!".

2022: Debut and first comeback

Lapillus Hit Ya! Naver VIBE

The group debuted on June 20, 2022 with their first digital single "Hit Ya!". On the same day, they held their debut showcase, during which the members introduced themselves and performed their debut track, as well as a cover of Camila Cabello's "Don't Go Yet" and their song "Queendom" which was later featured on their first mini album.[4]

On September 22, 2022, the group released their first mini album Girl's Round Part.1 with the song "Gratata" serving as the title track.

On October 21, 2022, MLD Entertainment announced that the group's official fandom name is "Lapis".

2023: Girls Round Part.2, japanese debut, spanish single

On June 7, 2023 a teaser poster for the upcoming second mini album Girl's Round Part.2 was released on the group's social media accounts, set to release on June 21. [5][6]

On June 10, several japanese news outlets reported that Lapillus will make their japanese debut with the single album "Who's Next (Japanese ver.)" on August 2.[7] The official announcement followed on June 22.[8]

On August 17, 2023, MLD Entertainment announced that the previous unreleased spanish version of "Ulala" will be released as a digital single on August 18, 2023.[9]

2024: Upcoming comeback, Chanty's Return

on November 8, 2024, LAPILLUS Members shared that they will probably make their comeback after their current schedules in Japan, and Chanty came back from hiatus.
