Yuri (JxR)

Yuri (유리) is a South Korean[1] singer and rapper under ESteem. He was one half of the duo JxR and a member of project group SHAX under the name Dojin (도진).

Career

2019: Produce X 101 and JxR

In mid-2019, he participated in Mnet's boy group survival show Produce X 101 representing ESteem. He was eliminated in the 8th episode and ranked in 40th place.

On October 24, it was revealed that he would be debuting in a duo named JxR along with Baekjin.[2] They officially made their debut on December 5 with the digital single "Element".[3]

2021: Imitation and Wild Idol

In mid-2021, Yuri played Dojin, who is a member of SHAX, in the KBS2 drama Imitation. The first episode aired on May 7 while the 12th and final episode aired on July 23.

On August 11, he was introduced as the 19th contestant of the survival show Wild Idol.[4] Unfortunately, he was eliminated in the third episode and was unable to make it further in the show.[5]

Personal life

Nationality

Yuri was born as Yury Albertovich Pak (Юрий Альбертович Пак) in Uzbekistan to Russian parents of Korean and Russian descent. He naturalized to become a South Korean citizen in 2019 (legalized on September 19, 2019) and thus renounced his citizenship to Russia. He also legally changed his name to the native Korean name Park Yu-ri (박유리).[1]

Trivia

  • His father is of Korean descent while his mother is of mixed Korean and Russian descent, hence Yuri is a quarter Russian.
  • He was an athlete for the youth national swimming team in Russia.[1]
  • As a Russian citizen, he completed his conscription in Russia. As a naturalized South Korean citizen, he is exempt from being conscripted in South Korea.[1]
  • He is a former SM Entertainment trainee.[6]
