VIVA (비바) was a four-member girl group under Shine E&M. They debuted on October 13, 2017 with their single "VIVA".
They unofficially disbanded in late 2018.
History
Pre-debut
In early 2017, Shine E&M introduced their upcoming girl group VIVA through a company video posted on Instagram. They were among the Shine E&M artists that filmed PR content.[1][2] The lineup consisted of Gayeon, Jaeny, Yeji and Lea.
VIVA performed at events to promote themselves prior to debut.[3] Occasionally, they performed with Shine E&M's string quartet SHINE. Member Gayeon was also a guest vocalist for this group.[4]
2017: Debut with "VIVA", overseas schedules
On October 13, 2017, VIVA made their debut with their self-titled single album "VIVA".
On November 4, the group performed in Singapore for the GastroMonth Circle of Excellence Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner.[5]
On November 30, it was announced that VIVA would be having have a schedule in Tainan, Taiwan with SHINE on December 1 and 2.[6]
2018: Chinese cosmetic brand contract, first music show appearance, TFC 17, Jaeny's departure and addition of Jay, disbandment
The start of VIVA's 2018 went smoothly. In January 2018, VIVA signed with a Chinese cosmetic brand for a modeling contract of 6 months. It made waves as they were only a rookie girl group.[7]
On January 17, 2018, the group had their first music show appearance on Show Champion, notably a few months after their debut.[8]
VIVA became MCs and hosted the mixed martial arts event, TFC 17, on February 23.[9][10]
However, by the end of March 2018, Jaeny appeared to have left the group.[11] She was replaced by a new member Jay in April.[12] For the entirety of 2018, the group mainly promoted at small events and didn't release any new music.
In late 2018, the group became inactive, with their last known public appearance in August and their SNS accounts had disappeared.[13][14] Shine E&M had also started promoting new trainees by November 2018.[15]
It has been presumed that VIVA had unofficially disbanded.[16]
2019: Speculation of return, members' departure
Shine E&M uploaded a YouTube video of VIVA performing their debut single's b-side "Love Love Love" on March 15, 2019 and another video of them performing "Secret Paradise" on March 23, 2019.[n 1][17] This led to fans speculating the return of the group.[14] However, this didn't come into fruition and only solidified the assumption of their disbandment as each member departed the agency.
Aftermath
Following the disbandment of VIVA, all the members went their separate ways:
- Gayeon became active as a vocal coach in Vancouver. She goes by the name JJooya.[18]
- Jaeny became active as a DJ, under the stage name DJ Lua.[19]
- Yeji became active as a model but now appears to have left the entertainment industry.
- Lea became a model, influencer, actress and MC. She has also made her solo debut on November 11, 2022 with her first single, "A Good Day To Love", under the stage name J'LEA. In 2024, she ranked 5th overall on the survival show Time Turner making her a part of the debut lineup of I.MET.U.
- Jay appears to have left the entertainment industry with her circumstances still currently unknown.

- ↑ Contrary to popular belief, the uploaded videos were not new performances of VIVA in 2019. They were videos of the group's schedules in August 2018.
