Kang Yunjeong

Kang Yunjeong (강윤정), also known as Gemma Kang, is a South Korean singer under Prain Global.

She is best known for being a contestant on the JTBC survival show Girls On Fire and the mystery music game shows I Can See Your Voice 8 & Art Singer.

Career

2021: I Can See Your Voice 8

On March 19, 2021, Kang Yunjeong was a contestant in the eighth episode of the Mnet mystery music game show I Can See Your Voice 8 that featured SUPER JUNIOR as the guest artist. She performed a cover of "As Flowers Bloom and Fall" by Jo Seung Woo when she revealed her voice during the episode.^[1][2]

On June 22, she released a full version of her cover on the JYM Studio YouTube channel.^[3]

2022: Art Singer, Prain Global

On January 29, 2022, she was a contestant in the first episode of the MBN mystery music game show Art Singer.

She performed "Magic Lily" by Ahn Ye Eun during the first round and "The Phantom of the Opera" by Sarah Brightman & Steve Harley during the second round with Park Myung-soo.^[4][5]

In December 2022, she signed a contract with the agency Prain Global after she performed as a guest at one of their company parties. Then, she started performing regularly at events held at Prain Villa.^[6]

2024: Girls On Fire, debut cancellation

On March 18, 2024, she was revealed as one of the 50 contestants competing on the JTBC survival show Girls On Fire.^[7]

During the first three rounds, she performed "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles in the second episode, "Changgwi" by Ahn Ye Eun in the fourth episode with Park Seojeong & Cho Soomin, "Gods" by League of Legends & NewJeans in the fifth episode with Hwang Seyoung, and "Uphill Road" by Yoon Jong Shin & Jung In in the seventh episode with Chong Jeena & Son Yeongseo.^{[8][9][10][11]}

During the first round of the playoffs, she performed "LMM" by Hwa Sa in the eighth episode with Hwang Seyoung, Kim Yebin, & Lee Arumsoul.^[12] For the second round, she performed "Obliviate" by IU and "Something" by TVXQ! in the ninth episode with Hwang Seyoung, Lee Arumsoul, Park Seojeong, & Choi Aim.^[13][14]

During the first round of the finals, she performed "Done!" produced by Gaeko in the 10th episode with Lee Sooyoung, Yang Irae, Kim Kyuri, & Hwang Seyoung.^[15] She also performed "Audition" produced by Yoon Jong Shin with Lee Nayoung, Cho Yein, Kim Kyuri, & Park Seojeong.^[16]

During the second round of the finals, she performed "Hwaa" by (G)I-DLE and "When This Rain Stops" by Wendy in the 11th episode with Kim Kyuri, Park Seojeong, Khan Amina, & Jung Yuri.^[17][18]

On June 25, it was announced that she finished in fourth place and became a member of the winning group of the show with Lee Nayoung, Hwang Seyoung, Lee Sooyoung, & Yang Irae.^[19]

However, on December 23, it was announced that the debut of the group had been cancelled due to circumstances with the agency they were supposed to join after the show.^[20][21]
