Urbosa is a playable character in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The chief of the Gerudo who possesses the power to command lightning itself. She was close friends with the late queen of Hyrule. Now, she is entrusted with piloting Divine Beast Vah Naboris.

Role in Game

As the strong and wise chieftain of the Gerudo, Urbosa was an old friend of Zelda’s mother and took on a motherly role to the young princess. While away from Gerudo Town, the Yiga Clan leader Master Kohga posed as Urbosa and tricked the Gerudo when Zelda came to enlist Urbosa’s aid to serve as the Gerudo Champion and pilot of the Divine Beast Vah Naboris. Urbosa returned in time to unmask Kohga, using her power over lightning to electrocute the phony Urbosa into submission and show her Gerudo vai honor guards who the real Chieftain of the Gerudo was. Rallying her warriors to aid Link in driving the Yiga back from Gerudo Town, she soon is able to summon the local Molduga that lived in the Gerudo Desert to scare the Yiga off, but Kohga's second-in-command, Sooga, arrives to rescue Kohga and escape before Urbosa could stop them. Soon after, Urbosa immediately joined Zelda’s cause to defeat Calamity Ganon both in devotion to the princess and animosity she bore on Ganon as he was originally a member of her tribe who led their people to war against Hyrule ages ago, not to mention her annoyance with the trouble the Yiga have caused in the region as Sheikah who turned their back on Hyrule, much to Impa's own disappointment to hear that some of her own have betrayed Hyrule for Ganon.

After the four Champions are assembled, Princess Zelda brings them with her to calibrate their Divine Beasts to allow for easier control over them, but they are suddenly attacked in Castle Town by Sooga, the Yiga Clan, and Ganon's monsters. Link takes Zelda and withdraws while Urbosa and the other Champions deal with the hostiles with their own troops and the Hylian Captains, but the Hinox they fought off was a decoy so Sooga could attack Zelda himself, but was stopped by Link, forcing Sooga to call a retreat.

Urbosa remains one of Zelda's closest confidants and source of wisdom after all four Champions are assembled and sent to the Korok Forest to recover the Master Sword and speak to the Great Deku Tree. On the way back to Castle Town, when Zelda starts to show weakness over how Link is getting stronger while she isn't, Urbosa assures her that Link is still the same boy she met before he gained possession of the Master Sword, putting Zelda's concerns at ease. After being dubbed the Gerudo Champion and retiring her Gerudo Chieftain crown and skirt for her Champion skirt, Urbosa aids Zelda and Purah in helping to activate the Sheikah Towers around Hyrule, before using Vah Naboris to track down the Yiga Clan's main hideout, allowing the Champions to move in and defeat Sooga and Kohga. After Purah demonstrates some of the towers' other abilities such as its teleportation feature to Urbosa, Zelda, and Link, Urbosa is soon told by King Rhoam that Zelda's 17th birthday is the day Calamity Ganon is to return, and heads back to Gerudo Town to prepare Vah Naboris for war. However, after returning to the Sheikah Tower in the Gerudo Desert, Urbosa notices that Calamity Ganon broke his seal and engulfed Hyrule Castle sooner than they initially though, catching everyone by surprise. Worse, the Sheikah Towers are deactivated, preventing Urbosa from trying to help anyone else.

Shortly thereafter, Urbosa is attacked inside Vah Naboris by Thunderblight Ganon, but despite her best efforts, the Blight is too fast and agile, even dodging her attempts to hit it with lightning, and soon manages to exhaust her as she collapses to one knee with fatigue. As the Blight moves in for the kill, it suddenly is broadsided from the flank by a large sand seal. The small Guardian that had been with Link, Zelda, and Impa when they first went to recruit Urbosa had summoned a time portal to bring Urbosa's descendant, the young Gerudo Chieftain Riju, and her sand seal Patricia, from 100 years in the future, back to prevent Urbosa's death at the hands of Thunderblight Ganon. Thanks to Riju and Patricia, Urbosa is able to hold on long enough for Link to arrive to aid in slaying the abomination and keep Vah Naboris in Hyrulean control. While Urbosa recovers, Riju heads off to clear the way to provide a means to help Revali on Vah Medoh by having Vah Naboris zap open a wind tunnel Link could use to reach Revali's Divine Beast on the summit of Mount Rhoam. Though Windblight Ganon escapes meeting the same fate as Thunderblight Ganon for the moment, Urbosa is grateful to Zelda, Impa, and Link for coming to her aid and saving her life. Same for Riju, as Urbosa assures her that she would have been done for had Riju not shown up when she did. Revali does not show as much gratitude for Link saving his neck, much to Teba's surprise, but Urbosa cuts him off from saying anything he might regret about Revali before asking Zelda about what happened back at Hyrule Castle.

In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, Urbosa takes Riju and joins in with the Gerudo soldiers, defending the Sheikah and the Science Academy from an army of monsters and the Yiga Clan led by Master Kohga. Once the dust settles and the Gerudo soldiers regroup with the Hylian soldiers, Urbosa takes a moment to praise Riju's experience with the Thunder Helm, prompting the younger chief to explain her duties before she was cut off when Master Kohga swipes the helm from Riju's fingers and places it on his top knot and dares Urbosa to use her power on him as he believed that it won't affect him, but Urbosa, knowing that Kohga doesn't know how to use its power, managed to shock him anyway, making him drop the helm and Riju to retrieve it. A flabbergasted Kohga implored to know how she still did it, with Urbosa viciously stating that it would only take a hundred years for him to master it. Pitching a fit, Kohga vows that he will have it, even if it took him that long before departing in a puff of Yiga smoke, allowing for Riju and Urbosa to have their break. Urbosa and Riju head to defend Fort Hateno with Vah Naboris. Once both strongholds are saved, and Purah uses a failsafe she developed to shut down or destroy many of the corrupted Guardians, dealing a heavy blow to Ganon's forces and their main means to raze Hyrule to the ground.

Later, as King Rhoam and his Royal Guard are cornered by the monsters and are clearly becoming tired and vulnerable, Urbosa and her Gerudo vai Soldiers arrive to slay the monsters, with Urbosa yelling, "The King of Hyrule must not fall!" as they back up the king and his men, unwilling to let Rhoam die to them. After that, Rhoam apologizes for the trouble, but Urbosa replies that the real problem would be losing him which would cost Hyrule their morale and Zelda a father, and she went on to say that his daughter is doing very well and her wings have grown strong, even more so than her late mother. She is currently looking for him at the Great Plateau. Rhoam thanks her as he left for the Great Plateau to wait for her there while Urbosa mulls that Zelda's efforts were not done in vain and utters "little bird".

Urbosa and Riju join the other Champions and their Divine Beasts to clear Hyrule Field of enemies before being summoned with the rest of Hyrule's various races to unite under Zelda's leadership to take back Hyrule Castle from Calamity Ganon. Though the Divine Beasts deal a heavy blow to Calamity Ganon after it tries to revive its troops under a Blood Moon, Urbosa and everyone else still have to deal with Ganon's two dark messengers: The dark seer Astor, and that timeline's small Guardian corrupted by Malice into Harbinger Ganon.

After defeating both of them and the resurrected Blight Ganons, the visibly unstable Astor finally loses it and orders Ganon to consume all the heroes, but as Sooga forewarned earlier, Ganon is no one's servant, and instead absorbs Astor, using him and Harbinger Ganon to create a perfected body for itself. It then infects the small Guardian from the future, forcing Link to attack and critically damage it, at which point Zelda remembers it as Terrako, a friend she built when she was little to comfort her after her mother, the Queen of Hyrule, passed away. Urbosa mourns for Terrako alongside everyone else, before Zelda, her resolve strengthened by anger and revenge for Terrako, swears that Calamity Ganon will be defeated here and now.

Initially, Ganon easily brushes off their attacks with no damage whatsoever, until Terrako, despite its condition, heroically self-destructs in Ganon's face to break its defenses and make it vulnerable. Once enough damage is dealt, Link cleaves Ganon in two with the Master Sword, before Zelda uses her awoken power from the Triforce and Hylia to seal Calamity Ganon away, despite its ferocious and desperate attempt to stop her. With Ganon gone, Hyrule is safe from its wrath 100 years sooner than in the Breath of the Wild timeline. Urbosa thanks Riju for all her help before Riju, along with Patricia and the other future Champions, are returned to the Breath of the Wild timeline now that their duty was complete, and Ganon was gone. Urbosa later helps recover enough of Terrako's parts to rebuild him, and when it reactivates upon seeing Zelda, Urbosa is glad to see that Terrako is alright as Hyrule faces a brighter future compared to the original Breath of the Wild timeline.

In the secret DLC ending, Urbosa and Riju are sand seal surfing together and having fun as they smile at one another. After that, she is seen interacting with the other Champions as Terrako amuses them. Later, Urbosa is seen with her fellow pilots, all who are back into their original attire to show that they have now served their duties, as they observe Zelda take off on the paraglider with Terrako following along. Seeing how well Hyrule is recovering from the damage, Zelda agrees that their efforts to protect the land was indeed worth it.

Personality

Strong and courageous, Urbosa is a credit to her people as a warrior queen in her determination to protect Hyrule in the upcoming battle with Calamity Ganon, whose history she is aware of and loathes for his actions in leading the Gerudo to commit evil when he was once Ganondorf. She also respects Nabooru, the Gerudo Sage who opposed Ganondorf and turn their people from a reclusive band of thieves to a real society engaging in open trade with the other peoples of Hyrule. Urbosa has a penchant for teasing others, particularly Princess Zelda whom she affectionately refers to as "little bird".

Powers and Abilities

Her powers of controlling lighting initially manifested in Urbosa's Fury, which she bestows on Link after defeating Thunderblight Ganon in the original Breath of the Wild and has the effect of attacking nearby enemies with lightning bolts. In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, it manifests by allowing her to charge a unique Lightning Gauge that she can then use to add follow-ups to Strong Attacks.

Her trademark weapon is the Scimitar of the Seven, the Gerudo's strongest sword and the Daybreaker Shield, the Gerudos' most durable shield. When wielded, it resembles moves similar to a graceful dance.

Gameplay

X: Urbosa does a quick lightning scimitar thrust. This consumes a portion of her lightning gauge. Pressing X again will return said portion.

Y, X: Urbosa does two diagonal slashes, then twirls and streaks three lightning bolts. Pressing X after will have her swing her scimitar in a criss-cross manner striking lightning on enemies, then finishes by swinging to the right striking lightning around herself.

Y, Y, X: Urbosa sends lightning forward at her sides while she hopes and does a lightning downward slash. This can be repeated by pressing X.

Y, Y, Y, X: Urbosa swings her scimitar down sending a large wave of lightning forward. Pressing X afterward will have Urbosa send a large lightning beam out of her scimitar.

Y, Y, Y, Y, X: Urbosa does two diagonal slashes, then swings her sword up, sending a horizontal lightning wave forward. Pressing X after will streak bolts of rotating lightning in place.

Y, Y, Y, Y, Y, X: Urbosa dashes in a zigzag pattern. Pressing X afterwards will have her streak lightning all around her.

Y, Y, Y, Y, Y, Y, Y: Urbosa swings her scimitar to the left, then twirls and swings to the right, then does two swings to the left, then a lightning flip kick, then thrusts forward sending a blast of lightning, and finishes by hopping and releasing a diagonal lightning slash.

A: Urbosa summons a field of lightning, making lightning streak all around herself, then sets the field off shocking multiple enemies at once.

Weak Point Smash 1: Urbosa spin jumps, then lands swinging her sword to the right and striking lightning onto an enemy.

Weak Point Smash 2: Urbosa does two diagonal slashes on the stunned enemy, then dashes around and does these two more times each, then snaps her fingers and strikes the enemy with lightning.

Weak Point Smash 3: Urbosa jumps up, stabs her sword into the enemy, then snaps her fingers and calls down lightning on the enemy.

ZR: Urbosa raises her sword to charge her lightning meter until she is at full charge or stops before reaching that point.
