Rey Za Burrel is a major antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Like Rau Le Creuset, he was cloned from Mu La Flaga's father. After graduating from the same military class as Shinn and Lunamaria, he pilots a white Blaze ZAKU Phantom and takes command of the Minerva's Mobile Suit team. Eventually, he switched to piloting the Legend Gundam to take out a Destroy Gundam. Raised by Gilbert Durandal, Rey's deep love and respect for Gilbert is unremitting, until he is shaken by the words of Kira Yamato facing Durandal in the Messiah, causing him to shoot the latter on a sudden impulse. In the aftermath of the battle, he is embraced by Talia Gladys as if they were mother and son, then the two and Durandal die in the collapsing Messiah.
Mission Mode
Rey Za Burrel is commonly found as one of the three instigators of the Destiny Plan for Durandal in Ultimate Mode that must be stopped.
In the Finding Blondie story mission, A Planned Destiny, Rey mistakes the crew led by Bright Noa as an enemy whilst they search for the missing "Blondie". After the battle, he apologizes, but admits he doesn't know Uso Ewin and knows of a woman targeting young pilots on the battlefield.
In the Protect the Archangel! story, Rey leads an assault against the Archangel.
In Aerial Rescue Operation, Rey guards a ZAFT checkpoint in Nairobi that Natarle's crew needs to pass through.
