Both History of the Later Han and Zizhi Tongjian give his name as Gao Xiang (高翔). |
Lu Xiang (onyomi: Ryo Shō) is a minor officer in Yuan Shao's army. He and his older brother Lu Kuang initially served under Yuan Shang before betraying him for Yuan Tan, whom he subsequently betrayed for service under Cao Cao.
Roles in Games
Lu Xiang first appeared in Dynasty Warriors 5, as Yuan Shang's subordinate. In Dynasty Warriors 6, he fights alongside his brother under Wen Chou to attack Baima. In the special edition, he participates in the first ambush force at Hebei. In Dynasty Warriors 7 he serves in the first ambush launched against Cao Cao on hi way back to camp. In 8 Lu Xiang is among the officers lured into battle by Yue Jin's taunts.
In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms game series, Lu Xiang is given poor stats, only really performing decently at directing armies.
Historical Information
Lu Xiang is first mentioned in history after the death of Yuan Shao in 202. Xiang and his older brother Lu Kuang rallied around Yuan Shang's call for more forces as civil war broke out between the two Yuan brothers. He was, however, persuaded to join Yuan Tan's faction after their initial fight. However this change in service was short lived, as he quickly submitted himself to Cao Cao, who in turn bought his loyalty with improved rank. Both he and his brother disappeared from history after their submission to Cao Cao.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Lu Xiang first appears in chapter 32, where he leads the vanguard for Yuan Shang against Yuan Tan with his brother Lu Kuang. He proceeds to lie in wait for Yuan Tan after Yuan Shang takes his army back to Ye, only to surrender to Yuan Tan when Tan tries to reason with the brothers. Yuan Tan sent them to submit to Cao Cao, who bought their loyalty through gifting him and his brother noble ranks. Guo Tu tried to buy back their loyalty with golden seals of office under Yuan Tan, but they just turned them in to Cao Cao, solidifying their new loyalty.
In chapter 35, Lu Xiang and his brother return again, this time seeking fame and glory under Cao Cao, by looking to defeat Liu Bei at Xinye. Cao Ren commissioned for them each 5,000 troops to defeat Liu Bei, but they are lured into a trap by Xu Shu. Lu Xiang fled the battle, only to be slain in one blow by Zhang Fei's ambush.
