Lu Gong (onyomi: Ryo Kou) is an officer under the command of Huang Zu, who in turn served Liu Biao. Very little is known about Lu Gong historically, but in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he mortally wounded Sun Jian.
Role in Games
Lu Gong first appears in Dynasty Warriors 3 during the Surprise Attack on Liu Biao, the oldest name for the battle of Xiangyang. He begins at the start of a winding path to the northeast and will flee down the path when approached. Sun Jian will give pursuit if not controlled by the player, getting ambushed and slain. If controlled by the player, Sun Jian can still be ambushed, it just won’t actually change anything. In Dynasty Warriors 4, Lu Gong resumes his role to lure Sun Jian into an ambush. However, this ambush can be foiled by either quickly defeating Lu Gong or his archer reinforcements.
Dynasty Warriors 5 has Lu Gong protect the eastern approach in the Battle of Jing Province (Xiangyang). Unlike the previous titles, Lu Gong is not in charge of the ambush for Liu Biao. This shift in responsibility hold true for Dynasty Warriors 7 as well. Lu Gong also appears at the Battle of Xiakou, defending the western camp's boulder attack officer, Zhang Hu. Dynasty Warriors 8 restores Lu Gong's role as the ambusher of Sun Jian, and the star mission of Xiangyang is to defeat Lu Gong before he can retreat or he will kill Sun Jian after the battle in a cutscene.
In Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, Lu Gong does not often appear. When he does, he tends to have fairly weak stats. His highest ability is in command at 60 and his lowest is a measly 23 for political skill.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Lu Gong only appears in chapter 7 of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. He volunteers to fight through Sun Jian's blockade to carry a letter to Yuan Shao to call for aid. Part of the plan to break through Jian’s forces included an archer and boulder attack ambush proposed by Kuai Liang. Lu Gong is able to successfully pull off his attack, managing to lure Sun Jian himself into the ambush and killing the Sun family patriarch. Unfortunately for Lu Gong, he was not able to deliver his letter, as Cheng Pu encountered him while searching for Sun Ce with word of his father's death and slays Lu Gong easily.
