Gao Pei (onyomi: Kō Hai) is a general who served under Liu Zhang. As guardians of Boshui Pass, he and Yang Huai attempted to bar Liu Bei from invading Yi Province only to be captured and executed. Their troops were absorbed into Liu Bei's forces and used to attack Fucheng.
The novel justifies Gao Pei's death by portraying him as an opportunist seeking to assassinate Liu Bei while pretending to surrender. His plot is easily thwarted by Pang Tong who has him beheaded.
Role in Games
Gao Pei is often seen together with Yang Huai in the Dynasty Warriors series. During Shu's Campaign for Cheng Du battle in Dynasty Warriors 4, Gao Pei is one of the enemy reinforcements sent to attack Liu Bei once the player ventures deeper into the bamboo forest. Players will need to rush towards his position before he can penetrate the main camp. Xtreme Legends includes him as another opponent in the Battle of Jia Meng Gate; his timely defeat is one of the requirements needed to earn the Horseshoes item.
The seventh title has him serve as one of the first lines of defense during the Battle of Luo Castle. In the eighth title, both he and Yang Huai manage to trap Liu Bei in one of their garrisons after pretending to defect.
Dynasty Warriors: Unleashed has Gao Pei attempt to entrap Liu Bei with a banquet invitation only to be thwarted by the player's efforts. He is especially indignant when his target tries to alleviate hostilities through words, deeming him nothing more than a lying invader.
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series has Gao Pei appear in scenarios where Liu Zhang is still in power. He mostly has average stats, with intellect being his strongest trait.
