Maze of Memories

The Maze of Memories is a place within a castle in Mira-Mira where the memories of others can be watched. It is a shrine to the inhabiting Mira-Mirans who claim to never leave the maze and only stay inside to watch precious memories. The maze is full of strange exhibits and mirrors, some of which have shattered (which act as a hazard).

Description

The maze works in a strange manner appearing to have a double gravity (when seen from outside it seems to float and is perfectly, vertically symmetrical) which Klonoa can switch between by standing in certain marked spots. There is no real way to get lost in the maze but the complex design often has you running in circles in the same room trying to solve the various puzzles.

Story

The People Fixed on The Past

When the trio enter the mysterious palace they find it to be an incredibly complex maze. When Lolo asks a nearby Mira-Miran if she knows where the Bell of Indecision is, the Mira-Miran replies that her people never venture outside the Maze, prefering to bask in their memories of the past, which causes Lolo to have something on her mind. With no way around, Klonoa has no choice but to traverse through the Maze of Memories.

Lolo's Lamentation

At the end of the maze, there is a huge mirror which houses one of Lolo's memories; specifically a nightmare of other priestesses mocking her for her repeated failure to become a priestess and Baguji predicting Klonoa's arrival to Lunatea and what his ring was capable of, and her vow to prove her peers wrong. She breaks down over reliving this painful memory, screaming, causing the mirror to shatter. Afterwards, the traumatized Lolo confesses everything to Klonoa; she never made priestess on her own and simply wanted to show her peers she could become one, believing she took advantage of Klonoa to get her the title.

Trivia

  • The level is possibly meant to be an homage to Kaze no Klonoa: Moonlight Museum, being set within a mysterious museum, having a remix of that game's intro music for its theme (and is even named on the soundtrack release as "Moonlight Museum") and notably having the Girl from that game appear as this level's Momett Doll.
