King Kefin (ケフィン王?) is the late ruler of the Kingdom of Kefin in Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand.

In Games

Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand

In the SNES version of Ys V, King Kefin is only mentioned, having died at some point before Adol reached the City of Kefin.

Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand (PS2)

In the PS2 version, King Kefin is still alive. When Adol and his companions confront him for using human sacrifices to power his alchemy, he transforms into a monster and, together with Rizze, fights Adol. The king is defeated and returns to his human form, then asking the alchemist Jabir for help. Jabir betrays him and finishes him off with a magic spell.

Trivia

  • In the original concept, King Kefin was the still living monarch of the kingdom of Kefin, who became immortal and had been ruling for the past 500 years. Once a righteous man who promoted justice and peace and opposed wickedness and war, he was corrupted by Jabir's promise of immortality and became a tyrant who spearheads Kefin's system of sacrificing "unworthy" people for its alchemy. He maintained his immortality by imprisoning children and draining them of their life essence, once every ten years during his birthday festival. He first appeared after Adol arrived at Kefin, at which point he was still portrayed as a benevolent figure, but gradually his real malevolent character would be revealed. Once Adol exposed his evil nature to Kefin's citizens and the Ibur family destroyed the stone that controls the king's art of immortality, the king became a hideous ghoul and was defeated by Adol in an ensuing battle.
