Chapter 514

Victory Tolls (勝利の余韻, Shōri no Yoin, "Aftermath of Victory") is the five hundred and fourteenth chapter of Initial D.

Plot

The MR-S spins out, doing a full rotation before Kai is finally able to right himself. He speeds up to try and catch Takumi, but his loss of speed ensures that Takumi can keep pulling away. Takumi passes the finish line first, claiming his second victory over Kai.

At the finish line, Kai accepts his defeat. He tells Takumi that how he got his car back under control was like a professional, and that his own hesitation was what caused him to spin out. He says it was clever to pull that trick on a bend with no guardrail, as it causes his fear to overcome him. Kai confesses that he had intended to invite Takumi to go pro, but after racing him he thinks that his skills would be better on the streets, as they will take him far. They shake hands, and Takumi thanks him.

At Lake Akina, Ken receives a call telling him that Kai had lost. He stands in stunned silence, and Bunta tries to console him, telling him that it was just a street race, but Ken isn't receptive.
