Chapter 138

War Amidst the Exhaust (苛酷な消耗戦, Kakoku na Shōmō Sen, "Harsh war of attrition") is the one hundred and thirty-eighth chapter of Initial D.

Plot

The narrator explains that while the Levin and Trueno are almost identical, the difference between Takumi and Wataru is down to the tuning, with Takumi's mechanical tuning giving him an advantage in the corners, and Wataru's turbocharger making him faster in the straights.

The racers enter the third lap, and Wataru is shocked by how well Takumi had done in the previous lap, but refuses to give up. The stress of the battle starts to get to Takumi, and he's unsure how long he can hold on.

At the bus station, Itsuki is surprised that the race is still going on, noting that his coffee has gone cold.
