Chapter 055

I'd Do It for You (君のためならオレはやる, Kimi no Tame Nara Ore ha Yaru, "I'll do it for you") is the fifty-fifth chapter of Initial D.

Plot

At the gas station, Kenji, Itsuki and Takumi talk about Iketani's situation. Kenji reckons he's embarrassed that Mako is a better street racer than him.

At Lake Akina, Iketani asks why Mako hadn't told him about being the fastest driver on Usui. Mako tells him that she had intended to, but that she hadn't had the chance. She says she's been a wreck since he'd seen her on Usui, and that she'd come all the way to Akina to tell him the truth. She explains that she's a completely different person behind the wheel of a car, and that she's planning on giving up racing. She asks Iketani for a favour, to set up a race against the Eight-Six. In return she offers to sleep with him. Iketani tells her that he'll try to persuade the Eight-Six driver to race, but that he doesn't want anything from her in return. Iketani leaves, and begins recklessly driving down the mountain, before he stops and begins to cry.

Later, at a diner, Iketani explains the situation to Takumi. Takumi doesn't understand why Iketani would do anything for her after she had treated him the way she did. Iketani begs him to race, and Takumi eventually relents, though he doesn't understand why he wants him to race.
