Sojourner

The Sojourner-medal is awarded for Agents who keep a streak of hacking Portals.

Mechanics

Confirmed

The following mechanics have been confirmed by Niantic.

  • A streak is started when any Portal is successfully hacked.
  • To keep the streak active, any Portal must be successfully hacked within 24 hours from the previous successful Hack
  • Portal faction is irrelevant, Hacks on friendly, enemy, or neutral Portals count
  • Hacks via Drones do count towards Sojourner (but not for Epoch)
  • Calendar day is irrelevant for Sojourner (but relevant for Epoch)
  • Unsuccessful Hacks do not count. This includes Hacks when...
    • the Agent's inventory is full
    • the Portal is in cooldown
    • the Portal is burned out
    • the Agent is in Speed Lock
    • the Agent has poor location accuracy
    • network connectivity is too poor, and other miscellaneous errors, so the Hack does not register

Unconfirmed

The following mechanics have not been confirmed by Niantic but by Agent observation and are as such due to unannounced changes.

  • There is a grace period of 12 hours, meaning that you have 35 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds between Hacks to maintain the streak. This means that Agents have reported that hacking for instance after 18:00 on a Monday, and then again before 06:00 on the following Wednesday is enough to maintain the streak. Conversely, hacking before 06:00 on a Monday, and then after 18:00 on the subsequent Tuesday, will break the streak.
  • The "Longest Sojourner Streak" counter ignores calendar date, it looks only at the time of day when the streak was started. This time is in UTC, so if you — for instance — started in 13:37 Standard Time, the roll-over time is 14:47 in Daylight Saving Time.
  • The "Longest Sojourner Streak" counter is not reliable, there have been reports that it can tick over even though no hack has been made, and thus give a false reassurance that a hack has been made.

Strategy

  • Hack at least twice per day, morning and evening/night.
  • Only rely on Hacks that gives items and/or AP. If nothing has been added to your inventory, or you do not see any AP awarded, count the Hack as unsuccessful.
  • Drone Hacks count towards Sojourner, but not towards an Agent's Daily Hack Streak.
  • Do not rely on your medal counter, because that can give false readings.
