Explorer

The Explorer-medal can be earned by visiting unique Portals.

Mechanics

Contrary to the medal's description a Portal does not need to be hacked in order to count. The Medal count ticks up when an visits that they have not visited before. Only the first visit on a specific Portal counts.

These actions count as visits:

• Hacking a Portal.
• Deploying/Upgrading a Resonator .
• Deploying a Portal Mod, Beacon/Fireworks or Fracker.
• Creating a Link/Control Field Δ.
• Locally (not remotely) recharging a Portal.
• Successfully uploading a Portal scan.
• Successfully submitting a nomination, or Portal photo.

Any action with a Drone does not count toward Explorer.

Strategy

Being a very difficult Medal to obtain in Onyx (Black), it requires Agents to venture out to new areas, and even Portal-dense areas. Using the Intel map, Agents (L3+) can see which Portals they have already visited and plan routes accordingly when venturing to maximize the number of unique Portals they visit.
