- August 2:[9] Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood are ambushed in Cairo's streets by Arab henchmen[12] of René Emile Belloq. During the skirmish, Marion seemingly dies.[9]
- August 9-11: The Hindenburg zeppelin flies from Lakehurst, New Jersey to Friedrichshafen, Germany in forty-two hours and fifty-three minutes, achieving a world record.[1]
