Nova was a personal AI assistant for Walter Londra, appearing in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.

History

Background

Nova was Walter Londra's personal AI assistant, who he took with him to Sirius. For the next millennia, Londra was constantly unsatisfied with Nova's personality and regularly adjusted her settings, the experience of which Nova compared to torture, who secretly desired release from her servitude.[1]

In 3012, as Nemesis destroyed the Far Zenith colony, Nova escaped alongside Londra to the Odyssey, who restricted access to any files pertaining to the rogue AI for fear that Nova might rebel in a similar manner.[1] When they returned to Earth, Londra split from the organization, taking Nova with him, and traveled to the ruins of Los Angeles, known to the new humans as the Burning Shores.[2]

Empathy

Discovering a group of Quen marooned in the area, Londra utilized their worship of the Old Ones and presented himself as a Living Ancestor to them, promising them a new life on a different planet. However, Londra only planned to take a select few to form his "retinue" based on their resemblance to his inner circle from the 21st century, while cloning genetic material extracted from other Quen to form its populace. Furthermore, Londra had Nova recover the Mutiny Suppression Protocol from Heaven¢'s headquarters to brainwash his followers. When Nova expressed her concern over reviving a controversial program, Londra had her maternal instinct setting reduced.[3]

Fortunately for Nova, an opportunity came in the form of Aloy and Seyka, who infiltrated Pangea Park in search of Londra. After they reset the Armory's system, it removed the restrictions that prevented Nova from interacting with them. After answering their inquiries over Londra's plans, Nova offered to grant them access to Londra's location in exchange for purging her source code, killing her. Additionally, she disabled the automated defenses around the park to grant them future access. Afterwards, Aloy granted Nova her request, finally freeing her from Londra and allowing her to rest.[4]

When Aloy and Seyka confronted Londra, he asked Nova how they got past her, but got no response. Aloy angrily told him that Nova was gone because she couldn't stand another minute with him.[4]
