The Idiot Army was a hacktivist organization in the Old World that was considered a world-renowned cyberthreat.[1]
History
The Idiot Army first came to the public's attention with the release of data on alleged US hacks of construction bots being used by Chinese and Russian corporations at disputed agricultural and mining sites throughout Asia. Styling themselves as anti-corporate guardians of human rights, the Idiot Army was thought to have grown from the surviving members of earlier hacker groups.[2]
In 2058, the Idiot Army attacked the US prison system, leading to the escape of several hundred inmates, which they saw as a "legitimate act of revolution" and that the inmates were "political prisoners". A year later, missEDMe of the Idiot Army was put on trial, which was suspended after the prosecution's evidence disappeared.[2]
In 2062, the Idiot Army released nearly a terabyte of internal correspondence from Xiaolu Lunar Resources, sparking rumors that the Shanghai-based lunar mining company was preparing to downsize considerably.[3]
In 2064, the Idiot Army hacked into the autotaxi service Destin. Claiming to be "quality auditors", they scandalized the company by exploiting egregious security flaws in its routing and billing software and launching the humiliating "$45k for 4.5km???" holo-meme, permanently damaging the company.[4]
At some point, User 89865441 joined the Idiot Army, but was underwhelmed by the experience of being among the group, describing that most of the time is spent in intentionally tacky-looking holospaces with other members using anonymizing skins, most of which being meme-based. Upon asking another member what the next operation would be, giving suggestions such as doxxing Far Zenith or fitzing corporate warbots, they were simply insulted.
